My students ask me this often. While we as teachers are required to test so many times a quarter, test also let us know what the students have understood and if we have taught things well. God too wants to be sure we are getting His message and that we are growing closer to the image in which He created us.
In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. (1 Peter 1: 6-8)
Yes, God tests us often in life . . . for us to see just where we are. Through the tests and trials we struggle through in life, we come out stronger, better equipped, and better witnesses for Christ. As we continue to learn of God, we grow closer to Him and people can better see Him in us. As I tell my students, test are needed for us to grow.
Yes, we walk by faith . . . but a faith that has been tested!
