Don't forget!

Remembering things . . .

God is big on remembering. Old Testament festivals provide important background for many New Testament practices. The Last Supper was held on Passover (Matt. 26:17). The Holy Spirit descended upon the church at Pentecost (Acts 2). They were days for the Jews to remember and now for us as well. When we celebrate communion today, we remember what Christ has done and anticipate His second coming. It is why church attendance is so important!

The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”  In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”  For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. (1 Corinthians 11:23–26).

It is so important to remember what God has done . . . small things as well as the big ones. It helps us recall how He can get us through today's struggles and tomorrow's as well.

Can you list at least three things God . . . and only God . . . has done for you lately?

Don't forget!

pray now

Whenever someone asks for prayer, pray now! If not, we may forget. We get so busy with life, that we forget to pray for folks. We forget to pray ourselves some days. We go through the day wishing, going here and there. We get up late. We get that early phone call. We remember an assignment due or a task undone.

Paul reminds us to pray continually . . . always . . . especially when we have told someone we will pray for them!

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit.                               (1 Thessalonians 5:16-19)

Write down names of those needing prayer. We can text ourselves as reminders. Set an alarm on the phone. Do whatever we have to do to remember to pray . . . even for ourselves! Hey . . . why not pray now! Who needs prayer?

Ever wonder what eternity will be like for the CHRISTian?

“See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. (Isaiah 65:17)

Ever wonder what eternity will be like for the CHRISTian? I know I do! The words above provide a glimpse from the prophet Isaiah. Not only will we not experience the kinds of horrible things we do in the present world . . . we won't even remember them . . . even if we try!

Wow . . . . . that is good news indeed! Not only will be living a real life in a real world, but there will be no mention of the evils we have experienced in this life! Not a thought.

I am looking forward to it . . . what about you?

Truly God...truly man
