For Real?

Therefore, gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in ALL your conduct, for it is written (in Leviticus 11,19, &20), "Be holy, for I am holy." (1 Peter 1:13-16)

Strong words here from one who knew the consequences of sin. Peter experienced the out-of-fellowship feeling for sure! He knew the pain and anguish of disappointing the Savior. 

Many times we do not feel this pain. We are way too casual with sin and forgiveness. We tend to excuse far too much of our actions. 

I like how Peter says gird up the loins of your minds. To me this refers to a deep, gut-searching decision to follow the Lord, rather than a flippant statement. 

Can we decide to throw away these casual attitudes when it comes to Christ? Can we be serious with our relationship now as well as in eternity?
