Less is more . . .

Doing less and spending more time with Jesus is a good thing! Many are trying to stay busy thinking this is how to live a productive life. We spend time at work . . . time at school . . . time practicing and training . . . time with family and friends . . . but how much time do we spend with God?

While all the things listed above can be productive and result in positive emotions and relationships and even make life comfortable and enjoyable, the less time we spend with our Lord makes the things we do spend time doing futile!

Walking in His Presence brings peace, contentment, and an unhurried pace of living. Others will notice. They will experience what they really need . . . Who they really need . . . JESUS! Less busyness and more resting in Jesus. It is not laziness, it is contentment!

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. (1 Corinthians 2:9)

Rest? What is rest?

What is rest anyway?

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul . . .
(Psalm 23: 1-3a)

None of really know what rest is today. Our world is so busy going here and there day after day after day, we believe that our routine is normal. We believe rest is a day whereby we do all the the things we could not get done on the normal days! God is telling us is much different!

The bible describes rest as quiet; repose; a state free from motion or disturbance; a state of reconciliation to God. I believe we have time to do this daily. It should be built into our daily, normal routine. Time to sit in quiet with our God and Father . . . time to be free from hustle and bustle . . . time to be one with our God and His Spirit . . . time to relax and recharge . . . Rest should not be a once in a while day thing, but a thing we do many times in a day!

Yes, we need to have that day of rest, but as Christ followers, we need to have daily times of rest throughout each day!

Are we just doing too much?

This is a busy world . . . for adults and teens alike. But maybe, just maybe we are just doing too much! I is a question we must ask ourselves now and then. When we find ourselves with no time to spend with family . . . . not enough time to sit down to eat . . . . not enough time for exercise . . . . not enough time to sleep we should . . . . not enough time for God . . . . well maybe we need to ask:

Are we just doing too much?

Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.” (Mark 4:18-20)

In the parable of the sower, Jesus explains what can happen to those who hear the word but are not focused upon it. Busyness can choke it out and we forget about things of God. Those who take time for the Lord and make Him a priority are fruitful for God.

Where are we today? Let's make some adjustments as we ask the question: Are we just doing too much?

Truly God...truly man
