Jesus Christ experienced hematohidrosis while praying in the garden of Gethsemane before his crucification as mentioned by Luke; “and being in anguish he prayed more earnestly and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.” (Luke 22:44) Yes . . . to the point of sweating blood . . . Jesus was obviously stressed, anguished and even perhaps fearful of what was to come! Yet Jesus would not quit! He turned to God in prayer . . .Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.” He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” (Matthew 26:38-39)
Where do we turn when stressed, anguished and to the point of giving up? To whom (Whom) do we turn? Some choose drugs . . . some sex . . . some alcohol . . . some binge watch shows . . . others turn to food. As believers we need to choose to turn to the One Who knows our troubles and cares for us more than anyone else. (1 Peter 5:7) If Jesus had to turn to the Father, why don't we?
“Now, therefore,” says the Lord, “Turn to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning." So rend your heart, and not your garments; return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness . . .(Joel 2:12-13)
