we live in a rather dangerous world

Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore He says: Awake, you who sleep. Arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.” See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.(Ephesians 5:8-16)
Most would agree, we live in a rather dangerous world.  We alarm our cars. We have cameras watching our homes which we can view on our cell phones and computers.  We put passwords on our electronic devices. We even put chips in our pets so if they are stolen or lost, we can track them down!

Paul would agree with us today as he wrote in the first century: “The days are evil.” However, rather than advise us to go buy a new security system or upgrade our passwords, he instructs us to take advantage of the dangerous times to live as CHRISTians so evil can be exported!

We cannot be fooled by the world’s standards and somehow be surprised when we are acting just like the world; walking in fear and doing our best to blend in rather than standing out! Peter calls us to be “special people . . . called out of darkness.” (1 Peter 2:9) as we walk away from sinful desires and actions, we are drawing others with us to Christ, rather than sin drawing us away. The LIGHT of Christ exposes darkness and as we all in that LIGHT, evil works are clearly visible in stark contrast to  our actions. Without words, we are letting others see a different lifestyle and a better choice. We are therefore becoming living witnesses for Christ. (Romans 12:1-2)
