So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord. (Deuteronomy 8:3)
God will humble us now and then. As He did His people in the desert, He will humble us in order for us to realize we must depend upon Him. We will do without at times. We SHOULD do without at times. When we can no longer provide for ourselves . . . when the world no longer satisfies our every need . . . then we realize Who it is Who really provides.
He alone is God!
Jesus used this verse to counteract Satan when He was tempted. As we Fast this Lenten Season, let us remember it is God and He alone Who gives us our daily bread!
