Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us . . . You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.” If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. . . . Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed. (Hebrews 12:1,4-8, 12-13)
In sports, it's the ones who out work the others that usually win. When all abilities are equal, hard work and perseverance wins out. While we cannot work for our
salvation, there is still "
work" to be done! Initially, there is the
work of Christ upon the cross. Jesus out-worked the devil. He
completed the task!
No pain, no gain!
We cannot sit on our behinds and grow as believers. The CHRISTian walk is HARD! It takes sacrifice. We must say
NO! to some things and
YES! to others. Decisions can be troublesome and cause pain. But we grow . . .
When it comes to our relationship with Christ, we must make a decision and stick with it. Nothing comes easy!
