Get back to the basics. That is what we do when we are struggling, whether it is in sports, at school, or anything in life. We go back to the basics. Before every baseball game, the coaches go through the same drills . . . infield practice, shagging fly balls, batting practice. Basketball players start their lay up lines. Football players run through their basic formations. We even have warm-ups in school to get the students prepared for the day's lessons. Many times in the family we have to remind our kids of the basic rules and functions of the one (chores and other duties).
It is no different in the CHRISTian walk. When we get a bit lost, we have to get back to the basics!
- Read the Bible
- Communicate with God
- Gather for worship
While it is true that other skills and information is needed for an effective CHRISTian life, this basics listed above are core values and basic habits we must keep. Often we get caught up in life and find ourselves wandering day after day. We forget to read the Bible. We leave God our of our daily conversations. We even start skipping church because we are tired, have other things to do, or we just get lazy and livestream events.
If this is you today (I have been there too), start once again with the basics . . . get somewhere quiet, open your bible, and invite God in . . . .
I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship. (Romans 12:1)
