And on the Sabbath day we went out of the city to the riverside, where prayer was customarily made; and we sat down and spoke to the women who met there. Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us.She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul. And when she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” So she persuaded us. (Acts 16:13-15)While many argue over the role of women today in the Church, (Yes, I hold to conservative tradition!), one thing is sure, God can, has, and will use women in a great way! Eve, Mary, Elizabeth, Deborah, Ruth, and here in Acts 16, a business woman in Europe is led by Paul to Christ!
If you would, Lydia just might be considered our spiritual mother for those of us west of the Middle East!
What is your role with God?
Number one, have you accepted His call as Paul did and eventually Lydia? Are you pursuing His will? He has a role for each of us, but we must follow His plan, not our own!
