But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” The man asked him, “What is your name?” “Jacob,” he answered.
Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”
Jacob said, “Please tell me your name.” But he replied, “Why do you ask my name?” Then, he blessed him there.
So Jacob called the place Peniel saying, “It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.” The sun rose above him as he passed Peniel and he was limping because of his hip. Therefore to this day the Israelites do not eat the tendon attached to the socket of the hip, because the socket of Jacob’s hip was touched near the tendon. (Genesis 32:26-32)
Life is full of struggles! We
wrestle with what to wear . . . what to eat. . . where to go . . . who to be friends with . . . etc. As we get older we begin to
struggle with God.
Who are You God? What do You want me to do? Why is this or that happening? How can I be a CHRISTIAN in this world? Where are You God?
As we wrestle with God, let’s always remember His will is best for us (Jeremiah 29:11)!
Never trust a man without a limp!
HUH??? Well, if someone has never
really struggled with God and knows what is like to experience God, they really do not know! He is walking alone . . .
Israel, or Jacob, was a fighter but for all the
wrong reasons. God had to
redirect his energy and purpose. We all have gifts God wants to use,
He must direct us however. It must be for
His purposes in life.
Wrestle with God, not against Him. Allow Him to change the way we walk!
