Respect Authority!

“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone . . .” (Job 38:4-6)
We all have authority figures in our lives . . . parents, teachers, pastors, police, politicians, etc. We have many conversations with them in official and casual manners. But when they speak we must be careful to listen and follow their instruction!
Job came face-to-face with God and basically God said to Him, “Listen son, I made everything you have ever seen, so listen to me! What can you possibly say to Me?”
When the high priest Nicodemus did not understand what being born-again meant, Jesus questioned Him:
“You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? (John 3:10)
Just like a speeding ticket from the police, detention in school, or a punishment from parents, a conversation with God can bring us back to reality. We need authority to keep us in line and we need to respect authority! Knowing God is one thing . . . having daily conversations with Him is another! Do we know Him like we know our local policemen, our own parents, or even our favorite teachers? If we have difficulty understanding and obeying these authority figures, why would we be expected to respect a God we cannot see with our eyes? God has placed all authority over us . . . kings, law enforcement, teachers, and parents. Yet He is the ultimate authority. . .
Who are we to question Him?
