I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I rejoice because of you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. (Romans 16:17-20)
As believers, we cannot live for what others say about us. We cannot thrive on
man's applause. We cannot seek the popular vote. Rather, we must be motivated by what the Lord knows about us . . . in the most quiet places, when the spotlight is off and the cameras are off.
Reputation vs. integrity . . . which is winning out?
Many of us easily fall for the empty praise our friends and associates. We crave the insincere flattery and offer false impressions to be accepted. We say what needs to be said and yet maintain bitterness and hidden agendas deep within our hearts. We play the crowd much like a present-day politician. yet
know one really knows us . . . our inner struggles and tempting issues . . .
but God!
It is not what man thinks about us that counts. It is what God knows about us. We mustt flee from the lust of this world (2 Timothy 2:22). . . yes, even the shallow relationships and praise of the world! Seek to please God and accomplish His will despite the world's demands and empty promises. (Matthew 6:33) It is how we can preach the Gospel
without saying a word!
Is our
walk in step with our
talk?
Reputation vs. Integrity . . . which is winning out?
