Many people spread their coats on the road. Others spread branches they had cut in the fields. Those in front and those in back shouted, "Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!" (Psalm 118:25-26) "Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest heaven!" (Mark 11:8-10)
A parade fit for a king indeed and so many came to be a part of it . . . was it
too much,
too little or were they
too late? I wonder how many came just for the ceremony . . . to be a part of the crowd, just in case Jesus really would become King and take over Jerusalem from Roman rule? Yet if Jesus was the King, why so
little . . . why so quiet . . .was it
too late for the people?
People proclaimed Jesus as the coming King, extending the reign of David. Yet s few days later they would call for His death! What Jesus was offering was
too much for them, gave them
too little at the present time, and the people were way
too late to accept jesus' terms.
Many of us today expect way
too much from the Savior . . .
bless me Jesus, but don't require too much of me! We refuse to commit to what Jesus' demands from His children. We sacrifice way
too little! Sadly, even today, many are simply
too late! They have allowed Jesus to pass them by as the latest fad but not quite enough for their needs.
What Jesus offers (then and now)is not for the present. Oh, there are blessings for sure, but not all the time. We will suffer . . . as followers of Christ and at times simply be cause we live in a world full of selfishness, greed, and evil! Yet Jesus offers eternal happiness. It comes with a sacrificial price. We must accept life on His terms or have no life at all.
Is Jesus asking
too much . . . are we getting
too little in return . . . are we
too late?
Listen to the words of King David . . .
Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found; surely the rising of the mighty waters will not reach them. You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in him. (Psalm 32:6-10)
