There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.(1 John 4:18)
For the one who knows the Lord personally, there is no fear of God's judgment. In fact, the one who abides in Christ (John 15:5)actually looks forward to the coming of Christ! It is not that he will enjoy the suffering of those who do not know the Lord, but will rejoice in the fulfilled promises of God.
You can almost hear a sigh of relief in Paul's words here:
Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.(2 Timothy 4:8)
Yet we still have work to do. We do not just simply accept the Lord and wait. We must share the Good News so others may know. We must live out our faith for others to see love in action. Rejoice in knowing that the Lord is soon to return and let others know in how we live!
