By this time you should be teachers. But in fact, you need someone to teach you all over again. You need even the simple truths of God’s word. You need milk, not solid food. Anyone who lives on milk is still a baby. That person does not want to learn about living a godly life. Solid food is for those who are grown up. They have trained themselves to tell the difference between good and evil. That shows they have grown up.(Hebrews 5:12-14)
I recall my oldest son asking, "Why do children grow
'up' and adults grow
'down'?" Do we ever stop growing? Spiritually speaking . . . we should
always be improving, learning, growing in knowlwedge and application of what we learn concerning God and His Word.
I've never met anyone who became instantly mature. It's a drawn out process that God takes us through and it includes such things as waiting, failing, losing, and being misunderstood. Each of these occassions call for extra doses of perseverance.
Like the chart of measurements many families have on the spot on the wall marking the yearly growth of our children, we too have marks of growth in our spiritual lives. Unlike our bodies however, we never stop growing with God.
Let's just be sure we are growing up!
