What Footprints Will We Leave Behind?

"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.'"
(Matthew 25:31-34) We hear a lot about our carbon footprint that we are leaving behind. The fossil fuels we burn daily are not without their influence upon our environment. Coal, oil, gasoline, charcoal, cigarette smoke, fire places, waste dumps . . . all leave their impact upon our world. What about our spiritual footprint? What are we doing with all the energy we expend in our day-to day lives? Do we waste more energy complaining and trying to get even that we do making a positive impact on our culture? When we face injustice, difficulties, and opposition, we need to discover how we can use our energy efficiently. We get much more accomplished when Christ is the chief of our decisions and actions. We must rely upon Him. We only have so many days upon this earth. We only have so many days to influence others. We only have so much energy. Why not use it wisely and effectively for Kingdom purposes rather than selfish gain? Let's seek to make things righteous rather than to make ourselves look right. When given the opportunity, let's be sure to bring God glory rather that place ourselves on the podium. When we have the microphone, let's sing God's praises rather than our own accomplishments. God does not want to know what have you done for me lately. He wants to know what are we doing . . . present tense. When we are gone, what footprints will we leave behind? Are they leading the people we influenced to Christ? If the world is a stage, than we must be telling God's story . . . making HIS-tory!
