03 05 08 HAVE WE LOST TOUCH?
Jesus replied, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.
(John 14:6 NET)
Jesus is not merely One who has shown men the way; He is the way. It is His death, His resurrection, and His ascension that has made a way for men to spend eternity with God in heaven. He is not merely a way; He is the way. He is the one and only way that God has provided for men to obtain the forgiveness of their sins and the gift of eternal life. Lest anyone miss this point, Jesus says it again, in the plainest of words: “No one comes to the Father except through Me.” To know Jesus is to know the way to the Father, for He is the way. (Bob Deffenbaugh, Having a Friend in High Places, www.bible.org)
The disciples are confused. They are distressed. After three years with the Messiah, they are now filled with confusion. Jesus tells that He’ll be leaving them. He has to in order to send the Comforter (John 14:16-17). But the disciples had really begun to get to know Jesus. Why the change? Why does He have to leave? What next?
This is not uncommon to the believer today. How many of us have known the Savior for years, yet at times we get to a place when we feel He has left; we feel confused and alone, needing more? We all know it is we who stray and it is we who need a deeper understanding of who Jesus really is. As our Lord told the Philip and the disciples then:
“Have I been with you for so long, and you have not known me, Philip? The person who has seen me has seen the Father!”
(John 14:9 NET)
At times we get comfortable with Christ. We may lose touch. He is always with us though. If we know Him, we know God. If we know God, we have His Spirit within us. He is the only way for us to be content. HAVE WE LOST TOUCH?
"In the Beginning", the daily REMINDER from The Carroll Outreach Mission (formerly The Sparrows' Nest or TSN), is intended to jump start your day with the Lord. The Bible opens up with , "In the beginning, God..." It is our prayer that you will use this tool to begin or "restart" your day with the Lord! Only what we do for Him will last in the end!
