Being on the Right Team . . . With the Right Leader

For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world . . . our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (1 John 5:4-5)
As my hometown team prepares for the biggest football game of their lives in a couple of weeks, I can't help but imagine how excited they must be! They have overcome the odds; injuries, disappointments, even personal tragedies. Yet they prepare for the biggest stage of football . . . The Super Bowl! Many athletes never reach the game. Many never get to hoist the championship trophy or spray the champange in the locker room. One must be on the right team with the right leader. Spiritually speaking that is what John is saying in the above passage. Many people are seeking heaven . . . eternal life. But without accepting Jesus Christ, there is no victory celebration, no championship banquet, no trophies. The Super Bowl winners may be dancing in New Orleans on February 3, 2013. The question is where will we be when we face our last days? Will we overcome sin and death? Will we be celebrating?
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6)
