Isolation

O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.” (2 Chronicles 20:12)
Many times we will be up against a wall in life, especially as believers. We face adversity daily and the world will NOT understand. The closer we get to the Lord and His will in life, the more challenges we will face. While we all have heard it said that "What God has for me is for me", when it comes to being isolated in that endeavor it can be very lonely and challenging.

Where is our faith today? Is it in God or man? Whom will we lean upon? We cannot do both and succeed. Our eyes must be upon the Lord. Prayer is not a last resort, but first priority. Is being isolated from the world such a bad thing after all?

Anticipation

Anticipation can be exciting and yet painful. When that day or that time comes, what will it be like? Will it be as I expect? Will it be different? How will I and others react when reality strikes? How will it change me . . . others? What will come next?

All questions we face when awaiting an event, an appointment, a promise, the unknown. I wonder what was going through Mary and Joseph's minds that night?

Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold,[b an angel of the Lord stood  before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.”
And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.  Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child.  And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.    But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them. (Luke 2:4-20)

Do I have the faith to trust God through it all as Mary and Joseph did?

Don't Miss the Savior

Imagine being a wife and mom anticipating your best birthday party ever . . . turning the big 4-0! There will be cake, gifts, decorations, etc. Yet the cake has someone else's name on it. . . . your husband's! The gifts have his name on them as well and not yours. Now that you look a bit closer at the decorations, they are for him as well. . . . all about sports . . . his team not yours! Those who popped up and yelled, "surprise!" aren't even your friends, but his!!!

Wait a minute! Your big celebration and the cake, the gifts, the decorations, the friends . . . all about him and not you? Huh???? Now we know how Jesus might feel . . . not just on CHRISTmas but every week when we go to His house to worship Him and we expect to be entertained!

Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”(John 4:21-26)
The Samaritan woman nearly missed the Savior. Let's not miss Him this Season of CHRISTmas!

Ready for CHRISTmas Yet?

The tree . . . the "perfect" tree . . . the lights in just the right spots and just the right amount of "twinkle" . . . .just the right amount of holly or garland trim bending in the right spots and the red bows in the exact measured areas . . . ready for Christmas 🎄 . . .  or CHRISTmas?

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:18-21)

Rather than focusing on winning the neighborhood decorating contest or impressing the relatives with our grand decorations, perhaps we can say "welcome" to the Savior with our "party decor". Instead of seeking Black Friday savings we may refocus our attention or the suffering Savior Who saved us on the cross on the original Black Friday! No matter how many Happy Holidays or Season's Greetings I might hear, I will always respond with an emphatic,
 "Merry CHRISTmas!"

Not Now . . . No Room . . . No Time

I just can't find the room. I can't fit it in to my schedule. I don't have time for it.  There are just no "extras" at this time. No time, no space, no money . . .I am simply too busy!   Well, maybe I can find just a little time . . . a few minutes . . . an extra space . . .  a couple of dollars . . .  as long as it doesn't make me feel too uncomfortable or make me change my too plans too much.

Have you used any of these excuses for people in need lately? I believe we all have if not simply in our thought process. I know I am guilty of being a bit too selfish, at least at first glance until the Holy Spirit (or my wife) convicts me otherwise! 😔

So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. (Luke 2:6-7)
We often think of the innkeeper as an evil old man with no heart for anyone, much less a poor, cold, helpless couple and a soon to be born baby. But as I examine my life, I see it in perspective. At least he was honest. He didn't fake it. Maybe he went out of his way to set Mary and Joseph up in the "stable" and did all he could. After all, he couldn't put the other guests out!

Do I do all I can for Christ and others? Can I do better than the innkeeper? Would I give up my own "room" or safe place and stay "outside of my comfort zone"?  After all, I know a bit more of the story than the innkeeper did at the time. Do I see a couple in need, or a baby crying for help or a teen desperately seeking a safe place to hang out or talk?

Rather, do I say to myself; " There is NO ROOM for that in my life right now!"

Twelve Days or Twelve Months?

Ahhh . . . the Twelve Days of CHRISTmas; widely celebrated from December 25-January 6. While we know the "three wise men" took over a year or two to reach the baby Jesus, now a small child (Matthew 2:16) between birth and two years old, traditional churches still celebrate these "twelve days". Still looking for that "partridge in a pear tree" by the way, but I digress!

However one celebrates the HOLYday Season, I, for one want to try this year to keep CHRIST in CHRISTmas for twelve months! I wonder how drastically my life would be changed and perhaps the life of others? What if I focused on the King of kings all year, every month, each day? What if I shared His love daily and offered Him myself every day? What if everyday I focused on giving and not getting?

Ok, I am officially challenged! What about you? Let's echo Mary's words . . .
And Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord,And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. For He who is mighty has done great things for me, And holy is His name. (Luke 1:46-49)

Embracing Peace

Silent night . . . Holy night?  Sleep in heavenly peace? Really . . . at this time of year?

Facing stress is expected. Being stressed is totally different! Being stressed and being at peace are two different paradigms. There will always be gifts that are not purchased, decorations forgotten, and recipes misplaced or ingredients missing from the pantry. There can still be peace when we know Peace!

Focusing on the Prince of Peace and HIS-story may help us all to be more at peace and less stress as the 25th approaches . . . Have we really embraced Him?

For unto us a Child is born,

Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of His government and peace

There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. (Isaiah 9:6-7)

Joy . . . In the Sacrifice . . . . In the Giving!

"Joy to the World!" "The Lord has come!"

So why are we not that excited about this? Why are we so tied up in shopping, decorating, cooking and planning this event and that trip, etc? Where is the joy directed and why?

Listen to some of Jesus' last words as He prayed to His Father just before going to the cross:
“These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. (John 15:11-13)
Do we find JOY in sacrificially GIVING? Laying aside our desires for the needs of others is basic CHRISTian living. I realize that many GIVE today. I also realize that many of us GIVE out of  obligation and obedience . . . with an intent to be rewarded somehow, someway, somewhere along the line.

Jesus calls us to lay aside our desires for others as a lifestyle. It should not come as an after though or with strings  attached. This not only brings God JOY, but it brings JOY to those whom we serve and to those serving!

Let's bring JOY TO THE WORLD this season!

"The most wonderful time of the year"?

Celebrating the reality of CHRISTmas is far different from the fantasy CHRISTmas!  Many of us suffer from a variety of issues during this time of year; disfunctional families, separation from relatives and friends, illness, deaths, etc. It is not always the "most wonderful time of the year"!

Yet as believers, we can still celebrate the reality of Christ's love. Is that not what CHRISTmas is anyway? It's more about the REASON than the SEASON anyway! It is not the to-do list or even the gift list. It is about the GIFT! The love story between God and me is enough to make me say "Merry CHRISTmas to all and to treat them with His love, not my frustrations or shortcomings.

LOVE must be #1 on my list of to-dos. In reality, it is THE REASON!

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. (1 John 4:7-11)

Anticipating Messiah

Hope . . . A HUNGER and ANTICIPATION of Messiah. Think back to when we were really hungry . . . I mean fasting for days and looking forward to that all-you-can-eat buffet HUNGRY!

What are our "hopes" for CHRISTmas? If we prioritize our plans to what is most important to us, like relaxation, family time, great memories and not blowing the budget simply to make others happy for a moment or two, then our "hopes" may be fulfilled in what is worth remembering in years to come!

What do we want to remember; the ring, the toys, the decorations, the trip, or the time spent with family and friends centered around the love of Christ . . . our real "Hope". If we hunger badly enough for Him, then we will meet that hunger!
Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”(Luke 2:8-12)

Hope fulfilled. Anticipation met. A Savior has been born . . . He has been crucified and buried . . . Yet He rose from the dead to PRESENT each of us with an opportunity to have an eternal relationship with Him. This is HOPE .  . . . This is CHRISTmas! May we HUNGER and ANTICIPATE Him this season!!!

Fear or Faith?

Fear or Faith????? Strong fears can lead to major dangers and downfalls while strong faith can lead to major and lasting victories. Consider King Herod . . . a descendent of Esau, an Edomite who was raised as a Jew and appointed "King of the Jews" by the Roman Senate around 40 B.C. Very insecure and fearful of losing his throne to a little baby . . . a BABY . . . he had all children two years and younger put to death in the vicinity of Bethlehem when he heard of a baby's birth! This little one threatened this mighty king! Just the thought of losing his throne in years to come changed HIStory. Yet the faith of a humble couple, Joseph and Mary, also changed HIStory, but for good!
Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men. Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying: “A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, Refusing to be comforted, Because they are no more.” (Matthew 2:16-18)
Will we allow fear to cause us to choose wrongly or we call upon our faith to allow God to work in and through us?

Stay in Touch!

Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.” When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt, and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”(Matthew 2:13-15)
Stay in touch with God. It just may save your life. Just remember Joseph and Mary and little baby Jesus! Had Joseph not had the intimate and no doubt 24/7 relationship with the Father, he would have not received the message nor trusted the angel when he said:"flee to Egypt". Again, Joseph immediately did as he was told. There was no time for debate. There was no time to check Weather Channel or to Google the traffic in the area. It was leave or have your Son killed! Like Abraham, Moses, Mary and others, Joseph knew he heard from God and he swiftly obeyed. Oh, if only you and I were so tuned in to God and were so quick to obey!

Blind Faith or Solid Faith?

Many say we CHRIST followers live by "blind faith". While it is true we walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7), we don't simply walk into situations without knowledge or plans. You see, for the mature believer, this "faith" is a "solid faith", based upon facts, eyewitness accounts, and experience! It is also a call to obedience and not always what makes sense to the naked eye.
And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus.(Matthew 1:18-25)
As we recall the CHRISTmas story, we do not hear a lot about Joseph. We hear of Mary, the angels, the shepherds, the travelers from the East, and even Herod. Joseph "plays the background". However, without his faith and obedience in a God he trusted and a plan that did not make sense, where would we be today? How would things have changed? Let's be challenged to live by a solid and proven faith . . . in the One Who came as an innocent baby, was put to a cruel and horrible death, yet was raised up from the grave to save our very souls. My faith says He is coming back to rescue those who place their faith in Him and His plan.
Where is YOUR faith?

All I Want for CHRISTmas . . .

So, have you made your CHRISTmas list yet? Wrote it down, copied it, sent it off to Santa? Perhaps you may have even hinted a bit to others what may be on that list? As much fun as it is to gather together an "All I Want for CHRISTmas" list, as believers we must trust God with what knows is really best.
But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man. The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. (1 Corinthians 2:9-12)
After serving in New Orleans for nearly ten years, Columbia, SC the summer of 2017, and most recently the U.S. Island of Puerto Rico, I have been humbled enough times to believe that I have way too much. Even when I believe I am in need, it in no way compares to the real needs of folks suffering from natural disasters, terminal illnesses, etc. Most things on my list are "wants", not needs! I have been convicted that in my biggest "need", I can still sacrifice for others who need things more! What I am really praying for is more trust in God to change my heart and mind to be more like His!

Alone but not Alone

You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. The hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops. Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things.(2 Timothy 2:3-7)
As believers in this ever changing and compromising world, we must remain consistent and constant in the Word. As a soldier remains faithful to his leader and fellow soldiers despite the challenges, we too must persevere. Many times the strength must come from within . . . from the Holy Spirit. There may not be much encouragement from those around us! As Peter fell in his own strength, we too will fall unless we totally depend upon the Lord (Ephesians 6:10). Expect challenges. Don't be surprised when confrontation occurs. Yet stand . . .(Romans 8:37)

Not Clones, but Disciples!

Paul, had a struggle with sin, as we all do...at least I do! Yet he did not simply give in. He constantly prayed and admitted his struggles. This is a sign of spiritual maturity!
I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.(Romans 7:21-25)
It takes a lot of work to raise a new born baby into a prepared young adult. As a father, grandfather, teen coach and teacher, I have seen all sorts of tries, failures, restarts, and successes. It is no different for our spiritual lives as well. There are far too few "mature" CHRISTIans in my opinion today. At the very least, there should be far more! Many of us still struggle with the "baby steps" of the CHRISTian walk rather than the things of a mature adult. We must do more than pray a prayer to become a committed CHRIST-follower. It takes more than having others tell us how to behave or listening to someone else's testimony. We must prepare our own food, dress ourselves, and move out of the safety of someone else's house! In other words, we must OWN our personal relationship with our Lord and Savior and not simply mimic someone else. We are no CLONES, but DISCIPLES!

Wait on it . . .

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.(1 Peter 5:6-11)
Just imagine for a moment being at the crucifixion....dejection, fear, disappointment, maybe even some sense of abandonment. Now three days later you visit an empty grave and an angel tells you, "He is not here . . . He has risen!" Then Jesus comes to visit and let's you know He is truly alive and is about to give you something and someone special . . . yet He must leave! Abandonment again? Yet what you receive gives you the power to speak in various languages and heal the sick and withstand persecution and even death . . . All for Him and because He loves you so. It is all true. His followers did just that. They had to wait for just a bit longer to really feel the impact of Christ upon their lives. Hold on . . . Jesus knows and is preparing you and me!

No Fear in Love

When one truly knows the Lord, there is no reason to be afraid. The actual "fear" of the Lord is to have such reverence and respect for Him that we know Him so intimately that we are best of "friends". The "wrath of God" was poured out on the cross against sin and not you and me! He loves us and deeply desires a relationship, with each of us. As one who calls Him Lord, Savior and Father, the "fear" is nothing but love, admiration, honor, and respect. Those rescued by His grace are His beloved . . .it is a relationship (covenant) beyond measure . . .think about that!
Who is the man that fears the Lord? Him shall He teach in the way He chooses. He himself shall dwell in prosperity, and his descendants shall inherit the earth. The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant. (Psalm 25:12-14)

What Will be Our Response?

It's been a few days since the last post . . . With a fact-finding trip to assist the hurricane victims in Puerto Rico and Thanksgiving break with family in between. God has indeed been at work however! Despite what we saw in Puerto Rico, and it is shameful and devastating that our country could allow our people to suffer so much for so long, God is still in control. He is still God. He still cares, protects, loves and grants mercy and gives grace abundantly! He may allow horrible things to occur, yet He gives immeasurable opportunities to sacrifice and serve those in need and show His undying love. We are to be His ambassadors . . . His hands and feet . . . His "image" in a suffering world! What will we do in response? We cannot allow fear and anxiety paralyze us!
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:37-39

Thankful for A Bold New Journey

I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace. For God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ. And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. (Philippians 1:3-11)
I am so very thankful for the opportunity to know Christ and then to be privileged enough to then be able to have the opportunities to share it and even teach it to young people. Nothing brings me more joy than to witness and young one accept the Christ as their Lord and Savior and actually walk it out in life! I don't deserve this opportunity nor do I ever feel properly equipped. It is His grace alone that I have so many precious opportunities to share my experiences and witness thee last twenty-five years. As my wife and I enter into a bold new journey in missions (heading up small-scale relief efforts in Puerto Rico)we now ask for your continued and fervent prayers for our safety, wisdom, and planning to continue serving God and those He leads to us. As you pray and support, you are partakers as well of His blessings!

HOPE in a World of HOPElessness

In sports, I have learned it is never as bad nor as good as it looks. Never allow yourself to get too down or too excited. "Act like you've done it before", I have been taught and learned. Good advice for sports and life . . . right? In our CHRISTian walk, it is also good to remain level-headed. We will face many ups and downs, but CHRIST remains the constant. He is our Rock, our Anchor, our solid Foundation! Though things ARE bad and WILL get worse, we cannot allow that to cause us to give up hope, because our HOPE is CHRIST! So how do we stay so calm and keep a "peace that surpasses all understanding"? (Philippians 4:7) We MUST stay focused on God and His will!
Stay humbled my friends . . .

Are We Properly Dressed?

As Paul spoke of the "armor of God", he was referring to the battle pieces worn by the soldiers. Yet today we don't quite get it since our warriors have much different weapons and armor. However, we do have Jesus! He is our ultimate protection and our confidence in daily battles. Despite the ridicule we may face as believers, we have the Truth within our very core which allows us press on in life. Despite the lies we hear and experience in this world, we have the holiness of God guarding our hearts ❤️ from defection. Our thought s can remain on Him because we have a belief that goes beyond reason and scientific jargon. We have a defense shield all around in the person of the Holy Spirit which deflects the imaginations of this world. Finally, we still have His Word which will remain long into eternity after this world has met its last days.
The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.(Romans 13:12-14)
Thus we are "clothed in Christ". We are wrapped up in His strong and protective arms and covered by His eternal, enduring, and enveloping sacrificial blood. We are protected by His loving heart and provided for by His powerful Spirit. As we "walk" in His Spirit we find protection, peace, provision, and power! Are properly dressed today?

Living for Jesus in Our Microwave World

It's simple when God gives us a direct "yes" or "no" isn't it? While we may not like His answer (and sometimes we even are bold enough to disagree) at least we know! But what about when God says "wait" or "not quite yet"? What if He says "hold on, my grace will be sufficient enough right now". (2 Corinthians 12:9) Waiting is indeed difficult, especially in today's "microwave world". When we have the means to obtain what God has told us to wait for . . . that's challenging! When we see others prosper and we struggle . . . that's challenging. When others seem to flaunt it in our faces, even though innocently and unknowingly, man . . . that's a challenge! Yet David's words ring so,true:
Teach me Your way, O Lord, and lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies. Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries; For false witnesses have risen against me, and such as breathe out violence. I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord! (Psalm 27:11-14)
Remember, people are watching. They want to see faith in action and they need to see faith in action. You or I just may be the one to give others the courage to wait upon the Lord!
For a long time Israel has been without the true God, without a teaching priest, and without law; but when in their trouble they turned to the Lord God of Israel, and sought Him, He was found by them. And in those times there was no peace to the one who went out, nor to the one who came in, but great turmoil was on all the inhabitants of the lands. So nation was destroyed by nation, and city by city, for God troubled them with every adversity. But you, be strong and do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded!” (2 Chronicles 15:3-7)

It's Me, not God!

We quickly forget the good ness of God. One day we can be basking in the goodness of God and. . . . . BAM 💥 . . . we are knocked for a loop and we cry out "My God, why have you forsaken me?"(Matthew 27:46) What happens to us and our faith? Is it in God or the situation? Satan loves to quickly divert our attention to our situation and away from God. We need to remain focused upon the cross. Even Jesus turned to the scriptures to remain focused as He breathed his final breaths. He quoted David in His most trying time upon the earth. As He took our sin, He felt the separation from God. In our case, we CHOOSE sin and separate ourselves from God's protection. We too, however, can learn from the one after God's own heart . . .
But You, O Lord, do not be far from Me; O My Strength, hasten to help Me! Deliver Me from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dog. Save Me from the lion’s mouth and from the horns of the wild oxen! You have answered Me. (Psalm 22:19-21)
In the very Psalm whereby David felt abandoned, he quickly refocused and knew God would be with him. May you and I be so quick to recognize it is we who abandon God and not the other way around. (Romans 5:8)

Remember "when"

"I remember when . . . ." Isn't it great to look back and remember "when"? I remember when I scored the winning basket back in eighth grade. I remember when we had such a great time on vacation. I remember when my favorite team won the championship. I clearly remember the day that I received the phone call that my mom had passed away just over a year ago while on a mission trip in New Orleans. Memories can many times get us through trying moments and they can even help us to gain victory when we are struggling in the present. Do we have memories of how God has brought us through a particular circumstance . . . an illness, a disaster, a family death? God is faithful and ever-present . . . all-knowing and full of grace, mercy, strength, and consolation. In Him we have victory over any and all circumstances. Sometimes we simply need to think back . . . . Can you remember "when"?
So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. But there was no sword in the hand of David. Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it.(1 Samuel 17:48-51)
We have been, we are now, and we remain blessed if we keep our trust in Him. Take note:
And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.(Matthew 5:1-10)
We are indeed blessed . . . HAPPY . . . if we simply remember WHAT God has done and WHO He still is, despite what we may be experiencing.

The Difference

FEAR . . .Hard to describe yet very real. It can happen in an instant or build up over days and weeks...even years. It can cause some to withdraw, some to run, and some to commit horrific acts. Then others can simply stand boldly and not only face FEAR head-on, but attack that FEAR and conquer it. What is the difference? Rather, WHO is the difference? Listen to this . . .
Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.(Matthew 14:22-31)
So we call ourselves "children of God" and "saved" . . . let's walk in FEAR no more! Now this should give courage . . .
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,(Isaiah 43:1-2)
Now can we see the difference?

Talking to Myself

Do you ever talk to yourself? It's ok you know, especially when it's scripture! Many times we need to remind ourselves of the promises of God and how He has always been there for us, despite the people around us or the circumstances surrounding us. Take a listen to David's reminders here in Psalm 103. . . .
Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.(Psalm 103:1-5)
He has forgiven sin. He heals illness. He redeems from a life of destruction. He covers us with love and mercy. He grants us grace we never could deserve. He provides us with every good and perfect thing we ever will need. He "keeps" us! He has and He still does and will always do these things. Don't you forget it!

Expect the Unexpected . . . From God

Unexpected God "stuff". . . It happens when we expect the unexpected from God! Unexpected conversations, unexpected meetings, unexpected experiences . . . at the grocery store . . . with a person unlike you or me . . . an emergency room conversation . . . even a casual social media interaction . . . If we keep our focus upon God He will bring many unexpected things into focus . . . things we would have never seen otherwise. Watch out for God! He is working all around us if we will only EXPECT the UNEXPECTED!
For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do EXEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY ABOVE ALL that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3:14-21)
Get ready!

REBOOT

Just reboot the computer! Many times, this will fix a problem with the desktop, laptop, I-Pad, etc. Simply turn it off and turn it back on again. It s helpful in our walk with Christ (and others by the way) to simply sit back, take a minute to assess the situation, and REBOOT! After all, our initial journey with Christ begins with a REBIRTH, right? (John 3:3) It is always a good thing to think back on that beginning. Where were we when Jesus finally was able to reach us? Why then? What were we going through? Why did He make sense then? How did we drift so far away? Have we become ashamed? Have we become comfortable? Have we fit in too well with our friends, our school, our job, our world?
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. (Romans 1:16)
Let's not get too safe or comfortable in this world. It is very easy to slide into the cozy covers and drift off to sleep spiritually. Never forget where we came from, deep in sin. Remember our calling from Christ! Keep things simple. . . .
Go thereforeand make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.(Matthew 28:19-20)
Time to REBOOT?

Do We Actually CARE?

Somebody shared with me! Twenty-five years ago, someone shared with my five year old daughter about the realities and necesssities of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. All my life of going to church and private school and it never dawned on me, Jesus wants a PERSONAL relationship with me, not simply a visit now or then or an emergency prayer request. I am so glad someone actually CARED for us enough to share Christ with us. He has changed my life for enternity!!! Do WE actually CARE that much today? Many of you have known Christ since childhood. I met Him personally when I was thirty-three. So what have we done since? Have we shared Him with others? Do others matter as much as we do? What if no one had shared with us? What if someone's eternity depends upon our actions?
O God, You have taught me from my youth; And to this day I declare Your wondrous works. Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare Your strength to THIS generation, Your power to everyone who is to come.(Psalm 71:17-18)
DO WE ACTUALLY CARE?

A Nation of Heart Generators!

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)
One candle...one flashlight...one spotlight on a cell phone...what amazing change these simple items can bring to a home when electricity has gone out. While one light does wonders, imagine what a home generator would do! It's the same with our faith and sharing it. It is something special when we experience one coming to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Hearing a person admit they are without hope in their sin and to ask Christ to forgive them and accept His Spirit to reside within them and be granted eternal life with Christ is truly awesome and unforgettable. As many times as I have prayed with individuals, each time it moves my heart. I have even been known to "sweat from my eyeballs" at times!😪😂 Are we always so moved with compassion for the lost?(Matthew 9:36) In fact, the Bible tells us that angels rejoice when a lost soul comes to know Christ. (Luke 15:10) But what if more would share? What if it wasn't just on a mission trip or a neighborhood outreach? What if it was every CHRISTians desire to have a passion for the lost? What if each of our lifestyles projected the love and forgiveness offered in Christ? What if we were a nation of "flashlights" or "heart generators" for the Lord?

An OPEN Relationship is Good!

We adapt and adjust according to where we may be and whom we may be with at certain times. While we remain "who" we are, we act and interact differently with with different people. But what about how we communicate Jesus. Do we only acknowledge Him around those whom we know follow Him or are we as excited to speak about Him around anyone we engage? Being "open" about our relationship with the Savior may just "open" others up to meeting Him! Having an "open" relationship with the Lord exposes Him to those who otherwise would never meet Him. As missionaries, my wife and I travel often for ministry and it is natural to share our beliefs. However, it is not as easy doing so at the grocery store, at the gas station, or at the gym. It seems as though we have to "remember" to mention the Lord at times. Many times we think back and say, "I blew it! I should have shared about Christ with that person." Please pray that I may be even more bold to not only live for Christ, but also to share Him naturally more often . . . People need to know!
Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak. Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.(Colossians 4:2-6)

Scary Thoughts

"God, Am I really saved?" This is not simply a scary thought, but a scary reality to many, especially our young people! There are various doctrines floating around contending that cause doubt in the minds of many, especially our youth. Jesus' blood sacrifice, a PERFECT and ETERNAL sacrifice, indeed removes sin from the believer's heart. (1 Peter 1:18) No "prayer" saves anyone, but the confessed FAITH in Christ. (Galatians 3:26) Hopefully these verses give us all assurance:
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.(Ephesians 2:4-10)
Looking into Jesus . . . THE Author AND Finisher of my faith and yours? Thank GOD I AM saved!!!! There is no need to fear . . .

Serving Up Salvation

Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’(Matthew 21:34-36)
There is a difference in serving people / meeting their needs and serving to meet spiritual needs as well as the physical. This is not a burden, but a PRIVILEGE! Blessing folks is this life is great. To bring a disaster victim a supply of food, to provide housing for one who is homeless, even to simply stop and talk to a senior at the local McDonald's is surely commendable and appreciated. But all of these gestures last only for a moment, or a day, perhaps even a week. Serving with the Gospel in mind saves lives for eternity! This is exactly the call the Lord has put upon my wife and me and The Sparrows' Nest Ministries! All we do is to point others to the Savior. Please pray that we do all we are able to do not simply to meet a physical or emotional need, but to reach hearts and souls with the love and grace of the Gospel.
Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.(John 4:34)

Religious? Desensitized!

Religious people . . . Know any? I do and I can't stomach them! Most anyone would help someone if they saw them in need. If we saw a child crying we would reach out to console them. If we witnessed an accident we would stop and give assistance. If an elderly person was struggling with a package we would offer to carry it for them. It is simply common courtesy. Ephesians 2:10 says we're "created in Christ Jesus to to good works". James 2:15-17 reminds the believer that faith without is DEAD!. So when we hear on the news and see in pictures the dire needs of our fellow man, even our own citizens in desperate conditions, how can we simply offer a kind word or prayer? Why are we NOT motivated to sacrifice what we already have and can easily replace for their needs? We are caught up the religious activities of the world. We are part of religion, not a genuine relationship with the One Who sacrificed His all for our sakes. Are we that DESENSITIZED?
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless. Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.(James 1:22-27)

So Glad He Found Me!

If Jesus came to seek and save those that were lost, than what does that tell us who have been made in His image . . . "like Him"? Should our priority not be to seek out those in need of grace, mercy, forgiveness and reconciliation rather than seeking our own gain to the detriment of others? Read the following account of Jesus and a sinner (like. You and me):
Then Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. Now behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature. So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way. And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him, and said to him, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house.” So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully. But when they saw it, they all complained, saying, “He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner.” Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.” And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham; 10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Just a few Thursday thoughts . . .

Special . . . Not Special!?!?!

We are all alike.....every one of us. Made in the image of God. Why can we not see one another as worthy of respect, love and grace? We all want God to care for us, yet we do not always care for others like God cares for us! I am no more special than the homeless man, the prostitute, the unborn, or the elderly. Like I demand respect for myself, I should demand it and give it to everyone else! How can I consider myself worthy of God's love yet someone else different than me in some way or another is less deserving?
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply;(Genesis 1:26-28)
Special . . . Not Special . . .HUH?????

It's the GOD in me!

God IS good. God IS love. ALWAYS . . . . He does not waiver based upon my actions. He always loves me and even His discipline and correction is always done in love and for my good. Knowing this gives me a certain peace that this world just cannot give. As the world turns and thus turns its people upside down and backwards based upon the circumstances, it is comforting to know my Daddy still loves me just the same. I need to show others this love too!
For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another! (Galatians 5:13-15)

Don't Keep Jesus for Yourself!

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.(John 14:12-14)
Wait a minute . . . greater works than Jesus? Huh? How can that be? Jesus did some miraculous things as He was engaging people on this earth. Yet He was on this earth for a short time. It was a small world as well. We now have both the Old and New Testament as background. We have eyewitness testimonies throughout of the goodness of God. Yet we also have our very own testimony and a vast world of which to influence! With travel the way it is today and access to the entire world via social media, we can reach more people in one hour than Jesus could meet in his entire lifetime here on earth. With the aid of His Holy Spirit living inside, we have the ability to impact millions for His sake. Our very testimony of what and Who Christ is can give freedom to those imprisoned by sin and offer a home to the lost and orphaned. What are we doing with Jesus today? Don't keep Him to yourself!

Don't Choose Sides, Choose CHRIST!

Whose side are you on anyway? Right, left or Christ's? Us, them, or God's?
Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing. And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law. You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.(Galatians 5:1-6)
To really be "free" in Christ means to full "trust" Christ. In order to please Him we need to trust Him. Trying to fit in this world puts a "yoke" upon us. Keeping the "whole law" of man causes us to choose where to fit in and whom to please next. Being accepted into this group or that organization only serves to bind us up and "estrange" us from Christ and the freedom He offers. Later Paul would say a "little leaven leavens the whole lump"(Galatians 5:9). We cannot please man and God. Be careful. We are called to freedom and to love, not to choose sides! Walk in this Spirit of freedom!(Galatians 5:16-21)

TRUST . . . . but in whom (Whom)?

What does TRUST really mean? I have tried trusting on my own power, but I go back to doubt. I go back to my own plan to succeed and my own plan of how to prepare for the future. "I" can do this and that if "I" will just adhere to this plan or that program. Yet deep down I know "I" cannot do anything but only by HIS grace! I am learning . . . ever so slowly . . . to trust God and HIS grace. Jesus has already entered into the middle of our struggles and storms and is eager to help. He wants us whole and healthy. He will walk with us and complete us if we just unball our fists and hold on to HIS hand! Can we only learn to get off the tiring treadmill of "MY" life and crawl into the lap of Jesus and allow HIS life to reign in ours? Here's a familiar verse we use when sharing the Gospel. How about using it for ourselves to heal our own heartache? TRUST God with HIS grace today . . .
. . . . even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God . . . (Romans 3:22-23)

Between a rock and a bigger rock?

Hoping in something or someone we cannot see or fully understand. When God has placed a calling upon a life, a marriage, a specific group of people, than it must be believed and action must take place. God delights in such decisive action and Satan hates it. When one risks the comfort of everyday life and what others may say makes no sense. the Kingdom of God grows and His work multiplies. The peaks and valleys of life cause many to doubt. Caught between hope and despair, many get off the rollercoaster ride rather than strapping in and holding on tight. Our flesh desires comfort and security over anxiety, uneasiness, and chaos. God will S T R E T C H us, allow us to feel crushed and pressed, and refine us through challenges to accomplish His plans and make us into fine wine, precious gold, and shining stars for Him! God is right with us through it all!
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1)

Invisible Truth

Ever notice that as we grow in faith, the physical life grows in direct contrast to our spiritual life? Faith truly becomes the things we do not and cannot see! The more the world seems to focus upon the visible, the more the growing CHRISTian turns to faith . . .the INVISIBLE TRUTHS! Not knowing exactly what God has in store, yet trusting Him with it, becomes surprising and exciting. God is ALWAYS good and has the best of plans for each of His children.
Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday. Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret—it only causes harm.(Psalm 37:1-8)
Even in the center of the storm . . . in the eye of the hurricane . . . in the midst of the greatest challenge and most severe pain . . . God surrounds His children with love, protection, guidance, and peace!

Panic....Confusion....Instability....or PEACE?

The following verses remind me of a time we took our teen ministry on a dolphin watch on the Atlantic Ocean, just off the coasts of North and South Carolina.
But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.(James 1:4-8)
There we were on a drizzly day and no dolphins in sight. The boat captain wanted to give the passengers some excitement anyway so he began doing "donuts" on the water and as he did the ocean spray came at us in every angle! Now while some enjoyed it, I, not being an avid nor Olympic-skilled skilled swimmer, was praying for life not to end on the Atlantic Ocean! I was not patient nor calm. I lacked wisdom for sure. I was being tossed and driven in the waves! Yes . . . UNSTABLE! To say the least, I was glad when the captain stopped "having fun" and calmly headed the boat back to the docks. I got a feeling for what it was like to be out of control, tossed around, and praying for direction! Reading these verses in James this morning, reminded me to not allow Satan, or simply the everyday occurrences in life, to get me spun around and lacking direction. Lord, help me to stay focused upon You and Your wisdom, not the "intelligence" of so many today. While education, degrees, and life experience can offer suggestions, it is only the wisdom from God that can really overcome this world and all the troubles it offers! Indeed, His PEACE goes beyond all human understanding!

Shake Things Up a Bit!

I got Spirit, yes I do. I got Spirit, how 'bout you?
And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.(Acts 4:31)
Peter and John had been arrested for preaching the resurrection of Jesus. Even that could not contain their excitement for the Lord. In fact, they even witnessed to the rulers when they stood before them. Yet having been threatened to not preach Jesus and released, they were excited even more so! As we read above, the place was "SHAKEN"! What if we were so FILLED with His Spirit that the places we went and the people we encountered were SHAKEN about and turned upside down for Christ!
But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.(Romans 8:9-11)
His Spirit, if He truly is alive within us, can SHAKE UP and TRANSFORM where we go and whom we engage. is that Spirit alive and working within you and me today? Let's SHAKE THINGS UP A BIT!!!!

Wear Purple Proudly!

It's class color day at Spirit Week this week . . . Guess what color my class will be wearing? Purple . . . Representing royalty and kings. . . . in Hebrew "argaman", was to be used in material for the Tabernacle and the Temple.
Moreover you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine woven linen and blue, purple, and scarlet thread; with artistic designs of cherubim you shall weave them. (Exodus 26:1)
The Greek "porphyria" refers to purple and the purple fish (species of mussel) from whereby purple dye is derived.
Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul.(Acts 16:14)
Finally, purple represents royalty throughout the Bible.
So Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, with a great crown of gold and a garment of fine linen and purple; and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad.(Esther 8:15)
Our suffering Savior would be clothed in royal purple garments as well . . .
And they clothed Him with purple; and they twisted a crown of thorns, put it on His head, and began to salute Him, “Hail, King of the Jews!” Then they struck Him on the head with a reed and spat on Him; and bowing the knee, they worshiped Him. And when they had mocked Him, they took the purple off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him.(Mark 15:17-20)
Ahhh yes . . . PURPLE! Get used to wearing it folks . . . 💜✝️💟🕺🏻

Calm Down . . . Allow His Spirit to "Rest" You

Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”(Matthew 8:23-27)
Sweet sleep, even in the midst of chaos and calamity! How can this man . . . How can you and I seem so calm with all hell breaking out around us? How can we possibly not get upset, angry or too excited today, when EVERYDAY something ridiculous occurs around us. Ever heard of the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)? Duh!!!!! The final characteristic Paul mentions for the CHRIST-follower is SELF-CONTROL! We tend to overreact from a sense of fear. We "fly off the handle" when we do not first think. James reminds us to be SLOW to speak or to become angry (James 1:19) but rather listen to all sides and think about our reaction before we say or do anything. Slow down a bit everyone. CALM down a bit. Allow the Holy Spirit to take hold . . . Get some SLEEP!

My CAPTAIN . . . My HERO!

Quick . . . Someone to rescue . . . Superman? Batman? Hulk? We need help! There are so many hurting, injured, sick, dying . . . We need a real-life SUPERHERO!!!!! Oh, wait. There is One and He has done all this and more. In fact He has saved the entire world. Yet we must believe it and live it out!
Then great multitudes came to Him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others; and they laid them down at Jesus’ feet, and He healed them.(Matthew 15:30)
Oh yes, we indeed need a SUPERHERO today! We need a CAPTAIN to lead us in battle and save us from destruction. But it is not Captain America 🇺🇸 for sure! It is Captain Jesus 🥇, the Author and Finisher of our faith! He died in battle, yet He lives again and forever!
For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the CAPTAIN of their salvation perfect through sufferings.(Hebrews 2:10)

Mis-Matched . . . . Like Hand-in-Glove

Wearing two mis-matched gloves on a cold winter day will still keep the hands warm. A pair of non-matching socks will still serve to keep the feet covered and comfortable. A pair of shoes, though different in color, will still serve the feet well! I know the females will disagree, but the shoes don't even have to match the jacket or hat!👠👒👢🎩👡🎓👞👑👟⛑ As members of the Body of Jesus Christ, we all are mis-matched! No two of us are exactly alike, even twins have unlike DNA. However, as unlike as we all are, we can all serve our purpose by following the lead of the Holy Spirit. Older, younger, taller, different cultures, different talents, yet all "fitting" and functioning properly to serve God's purposes. Though we all may not "match" we can still fit like hand-in-glove!
But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.(1 Corinthians 12:20-26)

A REAL Faith Walk . . . Will I Ever REALLY Get It?

Wow......CONVICTED!!!!
“And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.(Luke 12:29-34)
Yes....really C O N V I C T E D!!!! So many in need around this world simply seeking the basics and I am worried about what I WANT to eat and where I would LIKE to go? Luke says to provide for ourselves "money bags that do not grow old"! I get that picture very clearly. This faith walk is indeed a challenging walk of faith. God, please change me to not be so greedy, so needy, so "feed me"! Help me to indeed walk by faith in You to provide. Will I ever REALLY get it!?!?

Hello . . . It's ME!

In the Old Testament, folks "heard" from God. It was a still, small voice, a thunderous voice, even an inviting voice. Prophets spoke forth His words. Even a donkey was caused to speak! However, today many say we cannot hear from God anymore . . . Why?
Now it was the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, and it was winter. And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon’s porch. Then the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, “How long do You keep us in doubt? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.” Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me. But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and My Father are one.”(John 10:22-30)
There is a reason we do not hear from God. It is not His fault. It lies with you and me. We don't seek Him. We do not recognize Him. We cannot sit still long enough to hear Him. There is too much noise around . . . too many voices to Hear from Him and Him alone. Or do we not even know His voice or even know Him at all? What is my reason to not hear from God today? What is your reason?

From Mommy to Milk to Meat

For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.(Hebrews 5:12-14)
A child goes from Mommy's Milk, to bottled Milk, to Meat. It's the same for the spiritual growth process of a CHRISTian. We first learn of Christ and repent of sin, accepting our state as a lost sinner and asking Jesus to forgive us and then cover our sin with His precious blood sacrifice upon the cross. We then receive the gift of His Holy Spirit to indwell us and equip us to GROW! Sadly, many stay on "Mommy's Milk" way too long spiritually! We do not seek a more mature diet of prayer, bible study, fellowship (real intense fellowship, not simply "hi, how 'ya doin'?"), fasting, and work in ministry. We remain comfortable in "Mommy's" arms much too long. Unfortunately the battle field seems too challenging. Where are we today? Paul (or the writer of Hebrews if you do not believe it to be Paul) states above that many (you and me?)should be teachers by now, yet we are still on the bottle! We should not only know biblical values and doctrines, but we should actively be teaching and discipling others. We all need to be engaged in the battle. Spiritual warfare is rampant within the homes, schools, churches, neighborhoods and the world! Let's increase the spiritual fiber in our diets and start to exercise our faith as mature believers and not mere babes!
How would you like your STEAK?

My Daddy is THE KING!

Peace . . . Strong Tower . . . Help . . . Rock . . . Resting Place . . . Shield . . . Comforter . . . Friend . . . Redeemer . . .Deliverer . . . Savior!
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:(John 1:12)
Would a child of a king not feel safe? Well, this King Is God and those who call upon Him in repentance have every right to be called His "child" and receive all rights and privileges granted by The King! Oh, how He loves us . . .
Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.(1 John 3:1-3)
God's Kingdom is not of this world! We must stop living like it is!!! While we may not know exactly what it will be like, we have His promises. When He returns, we shall find out. Hold on kids . . .

Power Over Fears

Everyone has fears . . . the dark, the unknown, the doctor, the future. Fear is natural, but we cannot allow it to grip us! The same power that raised Jesus Christ from the grave resides within every believer. His peace also is available to us as we go through fear. Fear is a human element, power is from God!
Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2Timothy 1:6-7)
Acknowledge the fear, but then acknowledge the power of God the Holy Spirit within you. It's a choice we make concerning what and/or Whom controls us!

What Will They Say About Us?

While it is honorable to pass on financial wealth and investments to the next generation, it is more valuable to pass on spiritual wisdom and eternal values and character. Our spiritual legacy is not only for our own family to charisma and embrace , but for folks we may never see nor even know. Pass on the wealth of spiritual values to the next generation . . . It's how God intended from Genesis on . . .
“Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, like the days of the heavens above the earth.(Deuteronomy 11:18-21)
As a parent or grandparent, what are you leaving behind? Even as a youth, you are preparing a legacy. It is never too late nor too to think of your future and your legacy to come.

Get Off the Bench and In the Game

And he arose that night and took his two wives, his two female servants, and his eleven sons, and crossed over the ford of Jabbok. He took them, sent them over the brook, and sent over what he had. Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him. And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!” So He said to him, “What is your name?”He said, “Jacob.” And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.”(Genesis 32:22-28)
Jacob did not sit idly by and watch life go by. He was not simply a "fan" of God. In fact, he questioned God at times and as we read here, he STRUGGLED with God! Yet he never simply sat on the bench. Have you ever STRUGGLED with what God was challenging you to do or with how God was moving in your life? I have! There were times, and still are, that I think, "What if I simply sit back and watch from the bench?" Why STRUGGLE? So as a result I have a few scars and yes, limps from my struggles. But it has all been worth it. I know God much better for the struggles! If you're struggling, be sure to struggle WITH God and not AGAINST God!

Self-Examination Check-Up

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!(Matthew 6:19-23)
Just some questions today for self examination: *What or whom is our focus? *What are we allowing ourselves to see each day? *Are we focusing upon the things God would have for us or our own selfish pleasures? *What are we believing as truth? *Is there compromise slipping into our lives? What we allow into our hearts and souls will make us who we are, despite what we say or what others say about us. What will the Doctor's report reveal?

Reassurance . . . Encouragement

Sometimes we all need some reassurance . I know I do lately.  “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing k...
