Trusting in the future?

It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes. All the nations surround me, but in the name of the Lord I will destroy them. (Psalm 118:8-10)

This psalm, generally ascribed to David, was Martin Luther's favorite psalm, according to C. H. Spurgeon. As many of the reformers were out on trial and put to death, Luther prayed earnestly before the Lord. David too leaned heavily upon the Lord through personal trials, family struggles, and battles for his own life against fierce armies.

Who do you and I really trust today? Are we putting our faith in political leaders, our retirement funds, our personal efforts to secure our present possessions and future plans? While it is wise to make plans, we must know who holds the future.

Are you secure?
