Back to the Future . . . .

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for He has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5)
As we close 2016 and look forward to 2017, we can truly see where God has provided. Any anxieties, worries, and concerns were mostly for naught, as God always did His job! Maybe we can learn for the future that God has this . . .you think? So as we approach another year, let's approach it with confidence knowing God is tight here with us . . .in fact fact He has been to 2017 and back to let us know He has everything in control. Will we trust Him at His Word? Will we commit to trusting Him just a bit more? More of Jesus and less of me . . .thant will work in 2017!

Time to Tune-up!

For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, but the wicked shall fall by calamity . . .(Proverbs 24:16)
As we approach the end of another year, I am so glad to know my failures do not disqualify me from God's grace. Once He rescues a sinner through Christ's blood, we are forever secure in His arms! We may stumble and fall, yet through grace we rise again and again. The unsaved are not so. Sin encompasses them and they forever doomed, no matter the effort they put forth. Jesus died and rose from the grave once for all sin . . .every sin for every one who accepts His offer of salvation. No sin can keep the redeemed from a relationship with the Savior . . .NO SIN! The only thing keeping one from Christ is to not acknowledge He is King of kings and Lord of lords. Yet it must be done while we yet live upon this earth! Ending 2016 and beginning 2017 is a fresh start for us all, but especially for the lost. Pray for salvation for those whom we know are in need of Jesus. Use this time to restart our engines as well. It is always a good time for a tune-up! And if you are still wandering, choose THIS a day to call upon Jesus to rescue you. No one is promised tomorrow . . .or next year!

It's Me Lord!

Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For each one shall bear his own load. (Galatians 6:2-5)
The blame game . . . We all play it. We do not want to look deep into our own hearts to solve issues, but we blame others. We blame the system. We blame family. We blame society. Paul urges us here to look inward. We alll are accountable for our own actions. We all will be held accountable by God as well (Romans 14:12) We all can do a better job of taking responsibility for our actions . . .our family issues, our health, our schooling, job performances, everything!
There is no one to blame but ME!!!

A NEW Year Diet

Sow for yourselves righteousness;reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the Lord, till He comes and rains righteousness on you. (Hosea 10:12)
Like in the prophet's days, we too must change our daily activities, especially what we take in. We need to return to a diet off prayer, repentance, fasting, and reformation. We need to MAKE time for God as we do work, family, and daily exercise. Breaking up "fallow" ground will require acknowledging the things that are choking out our relationship with God. We must put to practice the disciplines of prayer, devotion, fasting, study, etc. We have to weed out the things keeping us from our primary relationship which is with God. Just as we plan a daily diet and exercise routine, even getting up early or staying up late to be prepared, we must do the same concerning our time with God. Are we planning our private study and worship? Are we preparing to fast? Are we exercising our faith by works of kindness and generosity! In all our planning, we must make a plan to seek God and what He wants for you and me. Without a plan, we plan to fail. We cannot afford to fail God!

Continual giving . . .

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the Church and gave Himself for her . . .(Ephesians 5:25)
Ok . . .CHRISTmas is over. The gift giving is completed for the most part. Now is time to kick back, enjoy a game or two, perhaps go away for a few days if you are able, even see a few movies. But while life takes a break so to say, the CHRISTian life should never take a break. Especially as husbands and fathers, we are always on the job. Many times I blow it as a husband and dad. I get selfish . . .not purposefully . . . but I just think of myself a bit too much at times. Paul instructs us here to sacrifice ourselves for our bride just as CHRIST did. My life should be for her. I need to protect her, "wash" her daily spiritually, do my best to keep her holy, respected, admired, and secure. This is my role and purpose as I serve God. This is my PRIMARY role. No ministry is more important than my marriage. So I plan on taking this seriously this year. I want my bride to expect me to be there. She should expect me to understand her. She should expect me to defend her. I want to study her and know her as I do my job and the skills I need there. If a job can offer professional development, than my wife should expect me to find ways to develop as a husband! I do not want to become stale and outdated. I do not want to become predictable. So this is my task in the coming year . . .to be a living sacrifice for my wife as well as my Savior! What about you?

Accountable...not counting.

So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.(Romans 14:12)
As we account for all the gifts we have purchased and the costs incurred. ..have we considered our standing before God? What's more important?

Good News . . .Unannounced?

Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.(Luke2:17-20)
If we could only celebrate CHRISTmas as the shepherds did! They were simply amazed at the event itself. They thought deeply about the situation and its meaning. They glorified God! Finally, they TOLD others . . . If we could just imitate the lowly shepherds. They had no formal education. They were not popular within society. They did not hold positions of high prominence in business, churches or political fields. Yet they reacted to the Good News in a way that honored God and brought Him glory. They were astonished. They were full of joy. They told everyone they knew about it. What a way to celebrate CHRISTmas! Be overjoyed . . .Praise God continually . . .TELL OTHERS!!! Please do not allow this Good News of the coming of Jesus Christ go unannounced . . . .

Will We Be Ready?

Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. (1 John 3:1-3)
CHRISTmas is coming . . .but so is CHRIST! As we prepare for the celebration of the first coming of Jesus Christ, we need to be constantly reminded to be preparing for His Second Coming! Just as in the days of Noah, people will not be prepared. Just as in the days of His birth, people will not be paying attention to God's Word or the signs. They will miss Him as people "missed" Him in days long ago! Yes, prepare for a wonderful celebration of Jesus' birth some two thousand years ago. However, think about this: What if He comes back before December 25th?
Will we be ready?

Gift Giving

But when the set time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem this early under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. (Galatians 4:4-5)
Jesus was indeed born to set captives free! Born under the law, Jesus was born to be our sacrifice for our sin, or breaking of the laws of God. He would become our substitutional sacrifice. He Who knew no sin would become sin for us! (2 Corinthians 5:21) Jesus would fulfill what man could not possibly do; live a life of purity and obedience unto God. He would be offered up for our sins once and for ALL sins! Our response therefore is to offer our lives, as poor as they might be, as a living sacrifice unto Him. (Romans 12:1-2) This CHRISTmas, our gift to the Lord and to others is a life lived for Him. As we share and give to others sacrificially, we give to our God and Savior. There is no greater gift than to lay down a life for a friend. (John 15:13) As Christ sacrificed for us, His enemies, we in turn must give back . . .to Him and to all we meet . . .yes, even those whom do not quite "like"! That next day that He "fully comes" may be today . . .lets live like it! Merry CHRISTmas and Happy HOLYdays

Sharing Gifts

For the wages of sin is death, but the GIFT of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
This is one of the familiar verses we use when leading the lost to the saving knowledge of Christ. We want the sinner to know he is just that . . .a sinner who is lost without the GIFT of Jesus' sacrifice. However, we too need to reminded of our state before an all-powerful, yet all-loving God! God entered our sin-filled world as a human baby to live among us as a GIFT to show us just how to please the Father. But not only that, He also offered Himself as a bloody sacrifice for all of man's sins as a way to bring us into a right relationship with Him . . .one that would not require the continual ritualistic sacrifice of animals. Now we offer ourselves . . .daily . . .sacrificially . ..doing His will and not our own! You see, this time of year is not simply a joyous celebration, it is also a somber reminder of what God has done for each of us to make our way to Him personally accessible. Have we truly RECEIVED His gift? What are we doing with it? Are we now sharing it with others. (Matthew 28:19-20) With every gift we exchange, are we sharing the love of Christ, encouraging others to live for Him?

CHRISTmas Past and Present

Now there were shepherds nearby living out in the field, keeping guard over their flock at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were absolutely terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid! Listen carefully, for I proclaim to you good news that brings great joy to all the people: Today your Savior is born in the city of David. He is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a vast, heavenly army appeared with the angel, praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among people with whom he is pleased!” When the angels left them and went back to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place that the Lord has made known to us.” So they hurried off and located Mary and Joseph, and found the baby lying in a manger When they saw him, they related what they had been told about this child, and all who heard it were astonished.” (Luke 2:8-18) Imagine the spirit among the shepherds when the heard the original “GOOD NEWS!” Today….right in your hometown…the Savior is born! The sky lit up like never before! The angels sang! The shepherds ran to tell everyone they knew! Wow, what excitement. The excitement of Christmas past…...... What does Christmas present look like? Hustle, bustle, rushing here and there, working overtime to pay for things we can’t afford, and being so tired and irritable by the end of the day that we don’t even realize it’s about our Savior. Are we giving gifts just to give gifts, or to spread the love of Christ? Love came down from heaven in the form of a baby and love returned to heaven as a victorious Savior and sacrifice for our sin! And love is returning from heaven one day as a conquering and roaring lion riding upon a white horse (Revelation 19:11). So why aren’t we excited? Why aren’t we singing? Why aren’t we seeing the light? Why aren’t we telling everyone we know? HAVE WE BEEN SCROOGED? The god of this world would have us believe that we live in a hopeless world. What a lie! I have hope! Love “bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.”(1 Corinthians 13:7) We must allow love to live through us today and into Christmas future. The baby was born. The Savior completed His task on earth. The Spirit lives within every confessed believer. Question is this: Is your Christmas future assured? Is love secured? Do we rejoice with the angels and say “GLORY”…..or HAVE WE BEEN SCROOGED?

From Darkness into a Marvelous Light

The sun gains victory over the cold of night! The pagan celebration during the coldest of winter . . .December 21-22 . . . marked the Winter Solstice and the public celebration of Sol Invictus, or the unconquered sun God of the Roman Empire and patron of the Roman soldier. Winter marked death and spring was a resurrection! It was culminated in the Saturnalia Festival with a giving of gifts , festive images, other settting free of slaves in Rome. The earth was at its darkest yet the sun was the closest it would be to the earth. . . . Sound familiar????? John the Baptist would tell of the coming Light . . .
And You child, will be called the prophet of the Highest, for You will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways, to give knowledge of salvation to His people by the remission of their sins, through the tender mercy of our God, with which the Dayspring from on high has visited< us, to give light to who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.(Luke 1:76-79)
In the darkest of days, the Son would pierce the darkness and shed Light upon all of mankind! So by the fourth century (approximately A.D. 360) the Church was celebrating the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As more came to know Christ, the pagan celebration was abandoned and the Light of the world was celebrated in His triumph over the darkness of death. Old things past away and the celebrations became "new"! We can celebrate at CHRISTmas despite the pagan past and present commercialism. The Light has indeed pierced the darkness and we must shine that Light now and every day!

Why do we celebrate?

Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh . . . Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, old things have past away, behold, all things have become new. (1 Corinthians 5:16-17)
As we approach CHRISTmas there are many ideas of how to celebrate, when to celebrate, and why we celebrate. No matter what we may choose to be a part of our celebration, whether we are lighting up the house, using a treee, or exchanging gifts, we must be sure to center it all upon Christ, the reason we celebrate anything at all. Old things are gone. We are new in Christ. Do not the allow the world with all its evil intentions to keep us from celebrating the JOY of our Savior. Sure, a tree may have been an idol before . I agree that a Yule log was a secular symbol. CHRISTmas celebrations replaced the winter solstice and other pagan celebrations. However, we are NEW in Christ and free to celebrate Him as we see fit and as it honors Him! So go tell it! Let your light shine! Shout glory to God in the highest! The Savior has been born and the unsaved, unsure, and unknowing need to see it and hear it! Why???? . . ..because He is SOON TO RETURN!!!!

Living day-by-day?

But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. (1 Thessalonians 5:1-2)
As in the days of Noah (Matthew 24:37, Luke 17:26), folks will be doing what they do . . .everyday life! Just look around . . .so many simply ignoring God, even taking their CHRISTian life like a walk in the park! No sacrifice . . .no real work. We cannot allow those closest to us to simply sleep walk through life. Our younger ones need to realize just how serious this promise is: Jesus IS coming back . . .sooner rather than later! Just as the Pharisees and others missed Him, many today will also. They will be "left behind". Things will be much worse however this time around. The tribulational period will be no joke! Let's get people ready . . .if nothing else but by the way we "live"!

Are We Prepared?

And John tried to prevent Him (Jesus), saying, "I need to be baptized by You, and You are coming to me?" But Jesus answered and said to him, "Permit it to be so now, for this it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he allowed Him. When He had been baptized, He came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened up to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven saying, "This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased."(Matthew 3:13-17)
The old issue arises again . . .must I be baptized in order to be saved? Acts 2:38 is where we hear Peter saying, "Rent and be baptized." In all my studies, I see this as meaning be baptized because you have been been saved. In Acts 3:19, Peter simply said to "Repent". Acts 10:43 is where Cornelius' family believed and received divine forgiveness. Of course, we also have the "good thief" at the cross. So we see that baptism is in response to the Lord forgiving our sins. We respond in obedience to the Lord after we have repented and received salvation. Baptism doesn't save us, the Savior saves us! Yet who knows for sure unless we make a public statement as Jesus Himself did? Is it too much to please God? So what does this have to do with CHRISTMAS? John the Baptist prepared the way for the Redeemer. As we prepare for the celebration of Christ's coming and soon "coming again", we must be prepared and challenge others as well. Are we in obedience with His Word? Have we taken our forgiveness casually? Are we doing all we are able to come in line with His teachings? Just a few questions as we anticipate the Day . . .

Friday, December 9, 2016

What is Our Response?

My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; for behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. For He Who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. . . (Luke 1:46-49)
Mary responded to the news of the angel Gabriel with humbled praise for God. Even after a few questions, her response was one of graciousness and obedience. Her questions were inquisitive and not disrespectful or in any way negative. She was honored to serve and willing to tell everyone of the favor she had found with God, but by no means of her own! What can we learn from this? How do we respond when God allows us favor? Do we respond in a humble fashion or believe that we deserve the favor? Do we feel a desire to serve the Lord even more or sit back and bask in our good fortune? We can learn a lot from the humble young lady from Nazareth, who was believed to have been dedicated to the Lord from birth. She remained committed to the Lord throughout her life. She accepted the call of God and dutifully carried it out. What an encouragement for our young people today! As parents we should keep them focused, . . .keep them learning . . .keep them encouraged. God indeed has a plan for our youth. Would to God they remain in Him and become used by Him as well!

Somebody' s Watching Me!

Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?" ((John 3:10)
I have heard it said that we all are teachers to some degree. Especially as believers, we all know something we can share with someone else. Even if we are a ripe new believer, we know something more than one who has never trusted Christ. We all have a story to tell. But this is a real challenge for me today! As I have taught this lesson from John 3 many times, each time I am challenged to be sure I am teaching correctly, but more importantly, living correctly. As teachers, we MUST "practice what we preach!" Believe me, our students know when we are being sincere or phony when we stand before them. They know the genuine thing as opposed to a counterfeit. I have much work to do and they know it. I try to be honest with them. . .. As teachers, mentors, and role models, each of us, young and old alike, have someone looking at us as an example. Everyone seeks a role model. Kindergarteners look up to the elementary school kids. Elementary kids look to the middle school students. The middle school students are in awe of high school young ladies and gentlemen. Believe it or not, all of these students are seeking adults to observe and model as well! So,how are we doing? Even at this wonderful time of year . . .CHRISTmas . . . we need to model the proper way to celebrate the Savior in a fun, exciting, yet reverent fashion. It's a huge task we face yet we serve an even bigger God Who is standing ready to equip us all! He stands ready to judge or reward.
My brethren, let NOT many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment." (James 3:1)
. .

A Story to Share!

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, "Your God reigns!" Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices; together they shout for joy. When the Lord returns to Zion, they will see it with their own eyes. Burst into songs of joy together, you ruins of Jerusalem, for the Lord has comforted His people, He has redeemed Jerusalem. (Isaiah 52:7-9)
This CHRISTmas, shout it from the mountaintops. Go and tell it! Let everyone know from the front porch to the mall parking lot . . .Our God reigns! Jesus HAS come and He is soon to come AGAIN! Please do not stay quiet. When greeted with a "Happy Holidays", respond with a gracious smile and say, "Yes, and to you a Merry CHRISTmas and Happy HOLYdays as well!!!! Please do not miss the opportunities to share the love, compassion, and grace of the Risen Savior. Redeem the times for sure! In all of our giving, let's give the love of Christ. In all of our purchases, be reminded that Jesus has purchased our redemption with His blood. In all of the singing, celebrating, and gatherings, do not allow the message of the new born King to be left at the manger!
Christ IS born . . .Christ HAS risen! Christ WILL come again!

A Heart for CHRISTmas

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom , to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever . . . (Isaiah 9:6-7)
Advent means "arrival". Are our hearts prepared for His "arrival"? Though many have accepted Christ as Lord and Savior today, as in the past, many are not expecting His "arrival" today! He is here, yet HE is to to come. Look at His name . . .Wonderful . . .Counselor . . .Mighty God ...Everlasting Father . . .Prince of Peace! How many today need to feel wonderful again? How many are in need of real HEART-felt counseling? How many of our children desperately seek a relationship with a father who is there when they need him? How many today simply seek peace . . .peace of mind and peace within homes? As we prepare for CHRISTmas, let's remember Who He is and what He can still do. Share CHRIST this season!

GOD???? In the FLESH?????

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)
Can you imagine: God living here right among us? Well it's true. He did and He know still does! While He came in human flesh some 2,000 years ago, He still lives among us in the form of His Spirit . . .among believers world-wide.
Pastor Max Lucado says it this way: God had come near. No silk. No ivory. No hype. To think of Jesus in such a light is — well, it seems almost irreverent, doesn’t it? It is much easier to keep the humanity out of the incarnation. But don’t do it. For heaven’s sake, don’t. Let Him be as human as He intended to be. Let Him into the mire and muck of our world. For only if we let Him in can He pull us out.
So as we enter the CHRISTmas Season, share Him. Give a bit of the Savior to the retail clerk at the mall. Share His love to the postal carrier and the trash collector. Allow the waiter to experience His grace and mercy as he or she serves us. How can we, those who claim God to be with us, let others experience Him for themselves? He became flesh to give us the opportunity to know Him eternally. Can we now give others the same opportunity . . . this CHRISTmas?

Are We Also Blind to the Truth?

But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall Come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting . . . and this One shall be Peace. (Micah 5:2-5)
Nathaniel asked the question in John 1:45-46 if any good thing ever came from Nazareth, a small town of perhaps less than 500 in his day. Nazareth was an out of the way area by the Sea of Galilee. Perhaps Nathaniel and others should have been more aware of Jesus' history, rather than seeing him as a "nobody" from this small and rather unimportant little town! Are we not a lot like Nathaniel? Don't we too judge things by the appearance rather than what God could actually do? Do we not often doubt God when the things we see do not add up? Perhaps we may need to adjust our spiritual vision! Had Nathaniel and others recalled the prophetic writings and researched Jesus' history, they would have realized He was indeed out of Bethlehem (Matthew 2:1). Many times the evidence is right in our midst yet we refuse to believe. Are we also "blind to the Truth? Let's be sure this CHRISTmas to be opened to His Truths and not be shy to express them clearly!

Thursday, December 1, 2016

One TRUTH....Just ONE!!!

Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose HEART. But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the Word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the Truth, commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this world has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ, Who is the image of God, should shine on them. For we do NOT preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus our Lord, and ourselves your bond servants for Jesus' sake. . . . We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed . . .(2Corinthians 4:1-12)
What a challenge today to STAND for truth . . . GOD'S TRUTH! While there are dozens of translations to our Bible, there is still only ONE TRUTH. While there are hundreds of denominations, there is still only ONE TRUTH. There are thousands of churches in every city and county, but still only ONE TRUTH. Millions of preachers and teachers, yet still only ONE TRUTH . . . Despite the current conditions of our societies, we must still STAND and LIVE by ONE TRUTH! This is why God has us where He does at this time and in this place . . . to LIVE OUT His TRUTH and to SHARE it and MODEL it for the lost to see and experience. Please do not waiver!

It Takes TIME

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. (Romans 10:17)
There is one way to "hear" from God . . . through His Word! It is very simple. We do not have to search very far. Preachers are preaching it. Singers are singing it. Authors are writing it. But as Paul says in Romans 10:16, all have not obeyed! Paul asked if all have not heard. Their sound has gone out among the entire earth (Romans 10:18, Psalm 19:4) So what is the issue? Why are so many saying they cannot hear God? We are simply not READIING His Word enough and for understanding and proper application. Oh, folks are going to church, singing Gospel songs, and reading the Bible for sure. However, it is a surface action. THE Word is not penetrating to the heart. It is not sinking in. It is NOT transforming, cutting through bone and marrow, or causing revivial of the HEART and MIND. Reading and studying, as we often tell our children, does not simply involve looking at the words. It involves a detailed application of the words. It is no different with God's Word. We must be in prayer, underline, take notes, look up words, get definitions, look at the history, and make personal application. We must also invite the Holy Spirit in to further understanding! Oh, God is speaking for sure, but do we have time to understand?

Humbly Submissive

Likewise, you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." (Proverbs 3:34) Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for YOU. (1 Peter 5:5-6)
Humility . . . What a misunderstood and confused word today. We even "brag" that we humble at times! True humility comes when we can naturally accept others when they succeed. It shows when we can easily submit to those in charge. It is revealed when we are overloooked for positions even though we may be more qualified. It is often revealed or exposed in our prayer life! Teachers and mentors must model this for pur young people. Our youth today are pushed to be the best, and that is not a bad thing, if it is "their" best. Everyone cannot be "the" best. In fact, only One is GOOD, right? Doing our best and celebrating when others are better is praiseworth. Accepting less than we expected is honorable when we have done all we can to succeed. Realizing that my plans were not God's plans is noble and a humbling experience indeed. Practice submission. It is not a bad word! It begins with me!!!!!

The HOLYday Season

Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples! Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; talk of His wondrous works! Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord.(1 Chronicles 16:8-10)
The season is upon us . . . . It's official! Thanks doesn't end with the Thanksgiving weekend! As a believer, we have much to be thankful for each and every day. While we take time to cherish family and friends and all the wonderful times we have had together, as CHRIST followers, we have so much more of which to be thankful. In fact, it is because of GOD that we have the family, friends, and good times! So let these next few weeks of what many call the holiday season be a HOLYday Season . . . times when when we practice putting God at the top of list each day, thanking Him for all we have, all we are, and all we may be planning to accomplish! Happy HOLYdays everyone!

A LOUD Thanksgiving!

And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a LOUD voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at His feet, giving him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. So Jesus answered them and said, "Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? We're there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner (a Samaritan)? And He said to him,"Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well." (Luke 17:15-19)
Please do not ever be ashamed to let people know how good God really is . . . all the time! He is ALWAYS good! He is good in the everyday things and He is good in those special days. He is good when we are struggling and He is good when things go really wrong. Thank God that in an evil and sick world, there is One that is good . . . God! (Mark 10:18) I want to give a LOUD thanksgiving shout out to all who have been so good to me . . . my wife, family, church family, work family, and ministry friends. Challenges have come and gone this year, but one thing remains faithful . . . the love of God and His people. He has allowed just enough for me to handle and provided all I have needed to get along. God, You have once again demonstrated Your strength and grace to me and I THANK YOU above all!!!

A Talk with "SOUL"

Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted in me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenanace. O my God, my soul is cast down within me; Therefore I will remember You . . . .(Psalm 42:5-6)
Ever wonder why so many "believers" allow the world to get them so upset . . . so "down" . . . so dejected? We say we know the Living God and that we "blessed and highly favored", yet we find ourselves caught up in the back and forth debating and angry exchanges of the world. We say that "God is on the throne", but we still want what we wish for to occur. What we are lacking today is a little talk with ourselves . . . a sincere talk with a lot of "soul" if you would. If "we are who we say we are", to quote a former NFL coach, then we really have to decide within ourselves how we are going to act. If we are truly Christ followers, then we must stop following this world and its blueprint. . . . Just STOP!!!! Why so upset? Why so down? Why so angry? Hope in GOD . . . Praise GOD . . . Remember Who He is and Whose we are! Get that SOUL up and working . . . and LIVING! There is nothing more disheartening than a people with no SOUL! Be thankful for what we have, where we are, and Who has us!

Do We Really Care?

Therefore, be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful . . . For the same measure that you use , it be measured back to you. (Luke 6:36-38)
This section of Luke is often misquoted and misunderstood. Clearly, we are to be merciful to others and show grace, because God has shown the ultimate mercy and grace to those of us who choose to believe. He has not punished us for sin, but granted us an eternal relationship with Him! Wow . . . . But as the verses go on, we have to be careful how we talk to others. The verses DO NOT say we are NOT to judge others, but to be careful in that as we point out failures and sin in fellow believers, we are to be sure we are not GUILTY as well. We must check our own life's decisions carefully in order to be a better friend and witness. We need to care more about our friends and family and not give in to this society's casual way of calling people friends!
As believers, we are to CARE. We are to LOVE. We are to be ACCOUNTABLE!

How Do We Talk to God ? Do We Even KNOW Him?

And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything ACCORDING TO HIS WILL, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of Him. 1 John 5:14-15)
Do we really KNOW God? I mean, REALLY know God . . . .? If we do, then we should know His will for us. We may not know every detail every minute of the day, but by knowing God and His character, we should be praying more and more for His will to be done and less and less for our own selfish and prideful desires. So what is God's will? Here are a few tings I have come to learn over my years of seeking Him . . . We know He wants all to come to know Him (2 Peter 3:9). We know that He wants every believer to "make disciples" of everyone we come in contact with . . . or at least attempt to do so. (Matthew 28:18-20). We know He desires for us to be "salt and light" in how we live our lives" (Matthew 5:13-16). We actually read from Jabez the kinds of prayer God answers (1 Chronicles 4:10) So as we read and experience how others sought to know God, even observing it in folks today, we too can come closer to knowing Him, serving Him, and pleasing Him. Our prayers will become more of agreements with God than pleas before Him. They will challenge us more and grieve God less. We will thus become more like Him and start accomplishing more of His will here on earth . . . as it is in heaven! (Matthew 6:10)
And without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God, must believe that He EXIST and that He rewards those who DILIGENTLY seek Him!(Hebrews 11:6)

Thank You!

In EVERYTHING give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you! (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
I know we all go through some tough times now and then. At times it seems like one thing after another. But we have a LOT to be thankful for while we are here. Many times I sit down and make a list of all God has provided me; it causes me to get the focus off of me and place it on God and others. You know what? It makes me feel better! So I sit here less than 24 hours after shoulder surgery and I choose to thank God for: *Life and life in Him to be particular; *My wife, children and grandchildren, and extended family who love me in spite of me; *Mom and dad who did their best; *A church and pastor who hold God's Word as eternal Truth and hold me to it; *A job where people value me as a person and genuinely care; *An education that allows me to work where I can use my gifts and see the daily impact upon young people; *Students and families who are open to the things of God and not afraid to try the things they learn; *Doctors who care about me as a person; *A home, food, two vehicles, and income which allows us to care for our needs; *A mind that allows me to function clearly; *Anyone reading this, and the hope that you too know my God and Savior, Jesus Christ!
I challenge you....make YOUR list......

A GRACIOUS Heart!

Dedicated to my wife, children, and all the young folks God has led my way . . . for all the blessings He has given to us . . . even in the struggles!
Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name . . .I cried out to You O Lord, and to the Lord I made supplication. . . . Hear , O Lord and have mercy on me; Lord, be my helper. . . .O Lord, my God, I will give thanks to You forever. (Psalm 30:4-12)
No matter the circumstance, no matter the trial, no matter the struggle . . . GOD IS GOOD! Everything He allows is for His glory and our good. We may not see it right away, but if we stay focused upon Him and not the circumstance, we will see His hand it all. Even our darkest days can bring the most exciting testimony when all is said and done. Seek His face and His Word. Focus upon the Lord and not the problems. What is it God is doing? How does He want us to react? How can I please Him and keep "me" out of the situation? Praise God! Thank God! Have a GRACIOUS HEART just because He is God and He knows what is best . . . even the struggles!

In or Out of the Body?

He who loves purity of heart and has grace on his lips, the king will be his friend. The eyes of the Lord preserve knowledge, but He overthrows the words of the faithless. . . . Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge. . . so that your trust may be in the Lord . . . make no friendship with an angry man and with a furious man do NOT go, lest you learn his ways and set a snare for your soul. (Proverbs 11:11-25)
The "pure" heart is free of contamination. It is not harmful in ANY way. "Grace" is defined a unmerited favor in the CHRISTian realm and as "simple elegance" for a general definition. Either way we define purity and grace, we come up with a heart that is not contaminated or poisoned by this world but rather overflows with elegance and underserved kindness in words and deeds. The more we focus upon God and His Word, the more our heart is shaped into this image and our life reflects it. The more we give in to this world's agenda of entitlement and selfishness, the more we get "lost" in the bitterness, anger, and frustrations of this world. In a society that challenges our very core beliefs, everything we say and do reflects our heart, our beliefs, and our faith (or lack thereof), in a God Who is still Alpha and Omega! One faith, One Lord, One baptism . . . One Body . . . . Are you in or out?

Anticipatory Thanks!

I will give thanks to You, LORD! With all my HEART, I will tell of Your wonderful deeds. (Psalm 9:1)
The HEART is the center of our body, in general, location and in physical function. Life-sustaining blood flows in and out through the many arteries, veins and capillaries as vital nutrients are carried about the body to various tissues and organs. Cut off one area or another and the entire body can be impacted. As with the physical HEART, the spiritual heart of man is both the center of our being and from it flows our faith. What we believe at the "core" shows in our daily actions. The words we speak, the plans we make, even the thought S we entertain all flow from the beliefs in our heart. A "thankful HEART" anticipates God acting and intervening in our lives and looks for His work to be accomplished. It seeks opportunities to share His blessings and to tell of His goodness. A "thankful HEART" has a "want to" deep inside to praise God and to see others experience Him as well. It builds up inside and overflows to everyone who encounters the HEART! However, if we allow the enemy and those on his squad to cut off or block our appreciation of God, it can cause malfunctions and even spiritual AND physical death. We must be on guard daily to be HEART-healthy each day.
Do we anticipate God's goodness? Are we preparing to thank Him in advance? Can we feel it building up . . .flowing out . . . eager to be shared? Is this attitude "flowing " in and through us?

Stop the foolishness

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. (1Corinthians 15:58)
Do not give in to the cultural pressures. We the Chruch must BE the Church! Do not be moved. Stand! This effort will not go unnoticed nor unrewarded!

A HEALING HEART

Therefore I remind you to STIR UP the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. . . Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. That GOOD THING which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. (2 Timothy 1:6-14)
Those of us who call ourselves genuine Christ-followers, with the HEART and MIND of Christ, must be assured and reminded to access and use His power in these trying days. While it is easy to get caught up in the bitter debates, angry words, and even violent protests, the HEART of the believer knows to PRAY and SEEK His face. A believer under the control of His Spirit is not FEARFUL nor in doubt that God is indeed still on THE Throne of our lives and this Creation. The POWER we execute is that of His grace and forgiveness. THe LOVE we exhibit should trump the hate we witness on all sides. The MIND with which we plan and act is one of sound doctrine and judgment. Despite the things we witness and read, we need to have the HEART of Christ more than ever. . . . a PRAYERFUL heart for all concerned, especially those in authority on every level of government. We are NOT to encourage riotous activity, slanderous words, or evil plans. The Christ-follower is now called to be a PEACE-MAKER and a HEART-HEALER, not a brawler or one of angry and bitter words.
Blessed are the PEACEMAKERS, for they shall be called SONS OF GOD. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousnes' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:10)
These are not simply words for Matthew's day, but how Jesus laid out the CHRISTian life! Today if we hear His voice, we must NOT harden our HEARTS, but rather usher in the Spirit of PEACE and a HEART of HEALING!

Stay Grounded!

This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both SURE and STEADFAST, and which enters the PRESENCE behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered for us, even JESUS, having become HIGH PRIEST forever according to the order of Melchizedek. (Hebrews 6:19-20)
Melchizedek, the King of Salem to whom Abraham paid tithes (Genesis 14:20,Hebrews 7:2)had no record of birth or death. Jesus, our King as well as King of Jerusalem, with no beginning or end, is thought by some to be a "theophany"(preincarnate appearance of the Savior). Whether He was or not, the fact remains that Jesus IS our eternal High Priest and eternal Sacrifice, since ripping the veil and becoming our direct access to God's grace and mercy. No matter the world's activities, our FAITH remained solidly entrenched in the promises of God. Winds or change blow through the political realm, economics, and social circles. God remains God!
Now we pray. . . for kings and all who are in authority (1Timothy 2:1-3) . . . politics, community, churches!

God Shed Your Grace on U.S.

On this day, when many will cast a ballot for President of the greatest nation on this earth, many will do it flippantly and many will even choose not to vote. Christ-follower . . . Whatever YOU do .. . Be sure to do it with biblical guidance and a clear conscience before God. He holds the future in His hands. No policy, no program, no politician can do what God can and will do. We are accountable to God for every decision we will make and this one may just determine the fate of our children and grandchildren! This is NOT just an election. This is not about black or white, male or female, middle class or upper class, democrat or republican . . . this is about in WHOM WE TRUST! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pUVC1vVnXZ8
The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His HEART to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose GOD is THE LORD, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance. (Psalm 33:10-12)

Matters of the HEART

For the next few weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, I am focusing myself on the "heart". While it is the center of our bodies, it seems that not simply physically but emotionally and spiritually as well, most of life's issues are centered at "the heart".
The HEART, or "kardia" in Greek, occurs more than one thousand times in the Bible. It is the most common reference to human beings in the Bible!
While man observes the outside, God looks at the heart. But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7) Even with the best of x-ray machines, imaging, or other modern tools, man will never know the issues of the heart as our Creator. He formed us within our mothers' wombs and knows not only the physical make-up, but also those emotional and spiritual challenges one faces. If heart disease is the leading cause of death today, then as the Maker and Healer of all our heart issues, would it not only be beneficial, but necessary to give our "heart" over to Him?

Health Issues

As we all get older and face mortality, we think more and more about whom and what we leave behind. When doctors tell us of warning signs and medical risks, while we would be smart to heed them, I do place a higher emphasis upon the Holy Spirit and His wisdom and judgment than the doctors. It is not that I do not respect the doctors immense knowledge and experience, I simply trust and depend upon the Lord more! That being said, have we thought about our latter years lately? What if we are told that we face impending health issues? What if the doctors warn of past and or present conditions that could lead to an early departure? The closer our relationship with the Lord, the more confidence we have facing any challenge, in particular our health. Exodus 15:26, Psalm 103:3, Jeremiah 30:17, Deuteronomy 7:15 all speak to the "Healer" Who is God. Asa, sought the medical experts rather than God and died! (2 Chronicles 16:12-13) Ahaziah sought out the god of Ekron and died (2Kings 1:2-4) Doctors do a great work but they in no way compare to the Creator and Sustainer not just of this world, but of you and me. In my mind, when I hear a doctor's prognosis and diagnosis, I take this as a second opinion. I then go to the Lord for His opinion and make a decision from there.
Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick . . . . (James 5:14-15)
He is still JEHOVAH-RAPHA . . . The Lord Who heals!

Knowing God. . .

But as for me, I will walk in my integrity; Redeem me and be merciful to me. My foot stands in an even place; in the congregations I will bless the Lord. (Psalm 26:11-12)
Integrity is so very important when it comes to faith and trust in God. We can have all the right thoughts and opinions of others, but what we know and what God knows counts. Guilt can kill! It brings on stresss, anxiety and other health problems. Forget about others opinions and your reputation. Focus on INTEGRITY before God. Knowing one is on solid ground with the Lord can lead to greater mental health and peace of mind. Knowing we are one with Christ brings stability in life, despite the chaos around us. Stand tall and stand firm in God's Word. As waves crash and winds blow, keep your feet on solid ground. God has this . . .

To W(w)hom do we Turn?

Peter is writing to those "pilgrims" who had migrated to Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. Today that would be the area of Turkey or Asia Minor as it was known in Peter's day. They no doubt we're going through some very challenging days in the early church.
. . . you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuiness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, Whom having not seen, you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith . . .the salvation of your souls. (1 Peter 1:6-9)
Pastor Rick Warren (Saddleback Church in CA) writes that "We don’t get faith by sitting in a Bible study group or just talking about it. Faith is like a muscle; it develops by being used. The more you use your faith, the more it gets stretched. And the more it gets stretched, the more God is able to bless your life." While no one invites trials or looks forward to tests in life, they are opportunities to glorify God. Rather than choose to grumble, mumble, and stumble, we can turn to our God who knows our needs and desires to show up in our lives for all to see. Though we do not "see" Christ today, He is seen and witnessed in how we the Church handle the things life throws at us. Trials are a real opportunity for us and those unbelieving around us, to really experience His love and His power.
While there are many remediies, cures, and programs to correct things in life, first turning to Jesus draws us closer to Him and increases our trust in Him. If it worked for the early Church it is alright by me!

Is There a Doctor in the House?

Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith WILL save the sick and the Lord WILL raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. (James 5:14-15)
911. . . . Call a doctor! EMERGENCY!!!!! We hear of a bad medical report and we panic. We call around to others. We seek a second or even third opinion. We want to hear good news. Many times we seek the highest rated doctors or the newest cure. How many times do we go directly to THE Doctor? I believe that Jesus Himself can still heal! I believe that, as James instructed above, that prayer still heals as we call upon Him Who created us and sustains us. I first live out my faith in Him and allow Him to give me the prescription. Thank God for doctors and nurses and even medications, but I still count upon Jesus first. He is my first Source of advice and healing.
I await the testimony!!!!!

Outreach or In-House Entertainment?

As the population began to convert to Christianity in the Celtic region (largely due to Patrick) Samhain began to lose popularity. However, rather than eradicating the evil practices, the Church gave it and other holidays a Christian "twist" to bring paganism to Christianity. Costumes now replace disguises and candy has replaced fruit . . . but should CHRIST followers "celebrate"?
Let's look at the root of the holiday . . .
Is there anything uplifting, pure, lovely, or praiseworthy? Is there anything noble or of good report? In other words, does it in any way honor God?
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any VIRTUE and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things. (Philippians 4:8)
I know I may sound a bit prudish or rather conservative. I realize we have to reach people where they are. However, many of our activities geared to our "saved" folks need not be geared toward the "lost"! If we are truly doing an outreach, than let's "reach out to the lost" but "disciple" the saved! Meet those who know the Lord with "meat" rather than "milk". Milk is for babies . . . . I am afraid we are becoming the early Church from Patrick's day . . .maybe it's just me?????

Just a Few "innocent " Questions

Beloved, do not imitate evil, but imitate good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God. (1 John 3:11)
Halloween is one of the most celebrated nights of the year for witches, occultist, and Satanist. Rituals such as contacting the dead, casting spells, and even blood sacrifices are performed world wide. Even today, as many believe they are simply being innocent in allowing chhildren to dress up and have fun, our society has increased the "suggestive" outfits for kids and adults alike, horror movies increase in more demonic ways, and the fascination with the occult grows. Animals are mutilated and children abused throughout the world on Halloween. I don't know about others, but I have been freed from the grip of sin and death! We must be careful how we "celebrate". Would you expect a Satanist to put up a nativity scene during CHRISTmas and say "Merry CHRISTmas"? Why would we celebrate evil and say it's "innocent fun"? Just a few questions . . . .

It's NOT my money . . .

And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry." But God said to him, "Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?" (Luke 12:19-20)
The Bible repeatedly warns us to pay attention to spiritual matters. . . . the Lord is to have first place in our lives and be the center of our affections. He urges us to store up heavenly treasure by caring for the lost and hurting people around us. On whom is your attention focused? Working hard and preparing for the future is a good thing and a responsible thing. However, it can become a selfish thing if not kept in check! The physical and tangible things such as food, clothing, homes, and money have no meaning if they are collected merely for selfish and personal gain. God provides not only for our personal needs but also for the needs of others around us as well. Our talents, our time, and our treasure is to be shared with those in need. We are not in this world alone and just as the rich man discovered, one day God will call everyone to give an account of himself as to how he lived. (Romans 14:12)
How will your life's story play out? There is time to change the ending . . . begin today!

God Sees Our Desire to Please Him

Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors, and satrap, because an excellent spirit was in him . . . (Daniel 6:3)
Integrity can be defined as the steadfast and constant adherence to a moral or an ethical code.” It is “the state or quality that strives to be complete, free of the corrupting influences of improper motives or methods.” The thesaurus pairs integrity with such words as honesty, completeness, and incorruptibility. In the language of the New Testament, the word integrity translates a complex Greek word containing a negative prefix, the preposition "through", and the noun "corruption". The word very literally describes a man or a woman in whom runs “no corruption through them.” Integrity suggests a consistency between what we do in public and who we are in private. That is to say, what you see in public of a person of integrity is what he or she is in private. This is how Daniel is described in the Bible. Throughout his life, through ups and downs, he remained streadfast in his faith. Everyone saw this, even the "secular" world around him. He did not have a "church" life and a "other" life. His character was admired and rewarded. Though we may never experience the rewards he received on earth, God sees what we go through. It is worth the effort.

Encouraged by Youth

Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. (1 Timothy 4:12)
Our young people really WANT to do right! This I am learning over the years as a coach, mentor, and teacher. The problem is that they do not have a lot to work with these days. The examples they see before them are lacking. We, the adults, are so challenged that we do not even realize how we are damaging our youth. With all the talk of political upheaval, terrorists' activities, financial woes, too busy to do anything, and more . . . we are placing way too much upon our kids. Where is OUR trust and reliance upon God?
But know this, that in the last days perilous times WILL come. (2 Timothy 3:1)
While we KNOW that perilous times WILL come, we also have the promises of God for a future and a hope! If we quote it to our children than we must live it out. If we speak of the peace of knowing the Lord, than we must show that peace. If God has really NOT given us a spirit of fear, then why are we living with so much doubt rather than courage? Our young folks cannot be an example to their peers unless they see it in action from us, the MATURE believers.
What are our young people seeing in us?

Like a horse with blinders . . . .

So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel", which is translated, "God with us."
The prophet Isaiah said it thousands of years before (Isaiah 7:14). God had a plan. In His timing it would come to pass. Today many are still looking for signs of things to come. Many are still looking for Jesus! Jesus Himself was rather plain when He discussed these very things. (Matthew 24:3-50) Daniel prophesied as well (Daniel 9:27, 11:31, 12:11, 7:13-14). We know where He will set foot (Zechariah 14:4) but we do not know when (Matthew 24:36). Rather than look for a sign, simply trust His words. Do it now, as the Samaritan woman and her neighbors discovered in John 4.
"Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world. (John 4:42)
Are we so blind that we cannot see? Are we so drowned out by noise that we cannot hear? It's time to stop playing around and simply believe.

Back to Basics

In the beginning God . . . .(Genesis 1:1)
There was God . . . when the "Beginning" occurred. Do you believe that?
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word WAS God. He was in the beginning with God. . . .(John 1:1-2)
Also at the "Beginning" was the "Word". . . . the one Who "spoke" all things into existence.
I am the Alpha and the Omega . . . the Beginning and the End.(Revelation 21:6)
Here at the "end" we still hear the "Word" speaking. There is the offering of grace and forgive.ness for all who freely come and receive. A few questions:
Do you believe that God is Who the Bible describes . . . Who He says He is? Have you responded to His offer of grace and forgiveness? Is He your Lord and Savior? Are you prepared to face Him when He sets eternity into place? (Revelation 22:14-21)

Don't allow Satan to play MIND games with you

. . . and be renewed in the spirit of your MIND, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. (Ephesians 4:23-24)
Satan plays MIND games with us! He uses our culture, our friends, and our families to have to THINK things are harmless, trivial, and acceptable. The shows we watch, the music we listen to, even the friends and family that we interact with every day influence us one way or another. The decisions we make are all based upon our experiences as we interact in this world. Our fashion, our language, our recreational activity is all influenced by our culture. Like a coffee bean changes the water that hits it, God would have believers to change the environment they enter. We are not to be changed, but to be THE CHANGE! Do not allow Satan to play MIND games with us. Have a plan. Identify the enemy and his tactics so victory through Christ can and will be achieved. This does not mean we live a boring life in the closet of our churches. Personally speaking, my family and I enjoy the culture. We go to movies . . . We travel often . . . We attend sporting events . . . We love music and we dance! God intends for us to enjoy this world . . . but to His glory! So go for it . . .
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your MIND . . .

Less of ME

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the SPIRIT have their minds set on what the SPIRIT desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the SPIRIT is life and peace. . . Those who are in the realm of the flesh CANNOT please God. (Romans 8:6-8)
We all do it . . . Act out. . . Speak out . . . Walk out in our flesh! We simply say or do things way before we think. We believe what we are thinking just needs to be said or done and we are the ones to say or do it! Many times, most times in fact, it just may be the right thing but not the right time or the right words. If we only waited for the SPIRIT to let us know just what to say . . . what to do . . . when to do it! If we could only get out of the way of our feelings. The SPIRIT-led life is indeed a challenge, but it is a challenge that can be met head on. A humble spirit within can cause us to walk a little lighter, talk a little softer, and yet still have an awesome impact . . . an eternal impact in fact! Jesus' brother (James 1:19) reminds us to be slow to speak, slow to become angry, yet quick to listen. Listen to others. Hear their hearts; even through their angry or bitter comments. Don't take everything personally. Speak when the SPIRIT says to speak. Then and only then can we have the peace that goes beyond understanding.

Where is our GOD?

Blow the trumpet in Zion, consecrate a fast, call a sacred assembly;Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children and nursing babies . . . Why should they say among the peoples, "Where is their God?"(Joel 2:15-17)
The closer we get to the coming of Christ, the more penitent we should be. It was so in the days of the prophet Joel and it is so today. I was reading about the Church's dwindling influence upon our youth today and one common theme arose: as we divide our kids up into age-appropriate groups and even allow the youth to teach peer-to-peer many times, we have actually driven them away. Proverbs 13:20 explains to us that in the companion of fools one will suffer harm. Without wisdom, our youth will stumble. They remain spiritual adolescents into adulthood. The Bible is clear in the Old Testament as to the value of family worship, father-led devotions and teachings (Deuteronomy 6:6-9), and united worship of the entire Body. Children, teens, and young adults need to witness the worship of mature believers to understand it. Simply telling them through entertainment driven sessions is not getting it done! Do they see a genuine relationship with our Lord and Savior in and through you and me? Their is a burden in my heart for this generation of souls who desperately need a close encounter with the Lord. Even our congregations are losing touch, striving to entertain as opposed to teach, disciple, and worship. It is even obvious to a watching world.
Where is our God?

God WILL!

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You WILL revive me; You WILL stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand WILL save me. The Lord WILL perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy O Lord, endures forever; do not forsake the works of Your hands. (Psalm 137: 7-8)
David believed the promises of God. . . . now will you and I trust Him? Throughout the two verses above, David repeatedly reminds himself what the Lord will do. We many times need to have some certain promises from God's Word that will secure us in challenging times. The truths of the Bible are our strongest security when the storms of life attack. Self-reliance or advice from others will never equal the help God's Word offers us. I cannot be so worried about all that is around me that I lose track of what God wants for me. In actuality, that is really all I can control; to allow God His way with me! I cannot convince others to accept Christ, to understand His ways, or even to respect Him. At the same time, I cannot listen to all the advice everyone else seems to have for me. I can only be responsible for me in the end! As the world turns day by day, I am still responsible to God.
God WILL have His way with me if I just let Him ... The rest is also up to Him!

Who is the Holy Spirit?

And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment; of sin , because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness because I go to the Father and you see Me no more; do judgment because the ruler of this world is judged. . . . When He, the Spirit of Truth has come, He will guide you into all Truth . . . (John 16:8-13)
The Spirit is not something we "get" when we want to shout, dance, or sing. It may however, make us weep, shout, dance, or sing! Like any person we encouraged, the Person of the Holy Spirit of God can and will cause us to do things, feel things, and react to things. The difference is this Person must be received through belief and repentance in the Lord Jesus and His work upon the cross of Calvary! God the Holy Spirit is not something to place upon the shelf for SONday worship or prayer meetings, or when we want Him or need Him. He indwells every born-again believer when he repents and commits to Christ. Only God knows the true believer, yet the proof comes in the leading and controllimg of the Holy Spirit upon one's life. If we say we love Christ and we call Him Lord, then proof should show in our living ... living led by the Holy Spirit! A Spirit-led life is not one that compromises or accepts the world's ways of living. It does not justify sin. It commits to a life worthy of a Holy God . . . an exciting life and a life set apart from this world. Too may "believers" get this wrong. While loving a set apart life requires saying "no" to much in this world, it also allows freedom to say "yes" to so much more of God!
Are we teaching and modeling this life to our young people today?

It's How I Was Raised

Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble.(1 Peter 3:8)
Have you allowed your upbringing or experiences to prejudice you against a particular group of people? Women? Men? The poor? The rich? Asians? Jews? Black or White? Prejudice leads to hatred and a lack of compassion toward others. To the contrary, God's people are to be known for their love and compassion. Surrendering your life to God means recognizing and relinquishing your prejudices. Your spiritual transformation will be stunted until you let go of your prejudices toward any people group. Seeing your own prejudices doesn't come easy. You need to ask God and those close to you to help you see areas of prejudice in your life. Once you see them, confess them and ask God to change your heart. (Steve Arterburn-New Life Ministries) This U.S. presidential election Of 2016 has caused many unpleasant attitudes and character flaws to rise up. "True colors" are showing and with it bitter hatred and accusations. People are aligning with one party or the other based upon traditional values and upbringings. However, for the Christ-follower, there is no room for past prejudices or cultural divisions. In Christ, there is either born-again or not! In Jesus' day you were Jew or Greek. Now, there is a disciple (follower) of Christ or not. There is no room for a white CHRISTian or black CHRISTian. There is no room for the democratic or republican CHRISTIan. A follower of CHRIST is FIRST a CHRIST follower! His ways . . . His doctrine . . His guidelines take precedent over tradition, culture, family and any other influence that MAY have had it a hold on us. As we examine our hearts, we must be honest with ourselves and deal with the sin of our upbringing and even past experiences. "That's how I was raised" is not an EXCUSE to sin, but rather a REASON to repent! There is NO ROOM in the Body of CHRIST for cultural or racial divides . . .there simply is not!

God the Holy Spirit is awaiting our call . . .

But God has revealed them to us, through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of man except the spirit of the man which is in Him? Even so, no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit Who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God . . .but we have the mind of Christ! (1 Corinthians 2:10-16)
Are the things of God still a mystery to you? Do you find yourself asking "why", "how", and "what" much too often? James addressed this question very plainly and his answer was to "ask God"! (James 1:5) God the Holy Spirit is ready and willing to give us all knowledge and wisdom pertaining to life's issues . . . if we are only willing to inquire and OBEY!
Dr. Charles Stanley writes: "The Spirit’s goal is not to fill your mind with information but to bring you to a deeper level in your relationship with the Lord. He wants you to understand the truth so you will fall in love with Jesus. Then you’ll long to spend time in the Word, thereby getting to know Him even better. But all these treasures of God’s Word could remain out of reach if you never ask the Teacher to unlock them. Each time you read your Bible, ask the Lord for understanding. A wonderfully intimate love relationship with Christ awaits those who let the Spirit reveal to them the thoughts of God."
Whether we have fallen out or touch with the Spirit or simply have never sought His wisdom, we can begin anew today. Treat Him as the real person that He is. A simple "Holy Spirit, please help me to understand this" is a great beginning. He will "unlock" the mysteries of life to each of us who asks.

Job, Jesus, you and me . . .

The eyes of the Lord never squint, never close, never slumber, and never sleep. . . .not even a nap! Every moment of day our Lord’s perfect eye scans every corner of the globe, surveying every heart of every person, looking for someone, for you,for me, for anyone whose heart is fully committed to Jesus Christ. Even as we go through times when it seems like we are all alone, He is with us, watching, engaging, willing to assist . . . even to take over!
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever . . . the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.(John 14:16-18)
A life committed to serving the Lord and His purposes is not easy. It is many times lonely. There are dark periods when it seems all is doomed. There are times when it seems tomorrow will never come and the light will never shine. However . . . His promise never fails. Hold on. Hang in. Lean on Him. Like David, like Job, like Jesus on the cross . . . He NEVER leaves us nor forsakes us. He is RIGHT HERE!

Prepare the Youth

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by NO means pass a away. . . .but as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. . . they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, and did not until the flood CAME and TOOK them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. (Matthew 24:35-39
Rather than worry about what we really cannot control, like the political circus we call a presidential election, can we please focus on things we know WILL occur? Jesus is coming back and a whole lot of folks . . . young folks especially have no clue! We as Christ-following parents, mentors and teachers are responsible to "go and make disciples" of these very young people. It is NOT enough to teach them math, science and geography. It is NOT enough to have them in every sports program and tutoring session available. While the MIND is a terrible thing to waste, the SOUL is what matters most! We have so many intelligent, athletic, and good looking young people preparing for a future in medicine, technology, sports, and education, but few prepared for eternity and a specific appointment with the Creator.
What answer will they give . . . will we give. . . when asked "Who do you say that I am?" (Mark 8:29)

Redeem These Times!

He changes times and seasons . . . He removes kings and sets up kings . . . He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.(Daniel 2:21)
Daniel was about to reveal the interpretation of King Nebuchadnezzar's dream. In the end, The Kingdom of God rules! What peace this is to the believer today! No matter the circumstance, no matter the seemingly confused state of world politics, God is in control and working out His plan. We as Christ followers need not to worry so much about the politicians as we do about our personal relationship with Christ. We are to be involved and influential in the political process. We are to pray for our leaders. (2 Timothy 2:1-2). We are to obey the laws set before us. (Romans 13:1) Yet we need to trust God with the ultimate judgment. (Psalm 75:7) Let's redeem the times we live in and be sure of our calling in Christ. The harvest in indeed ripe. There is work to be done!

Less of ME . . . A spiritual weight loss is needed!

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may KNOW that you have eternal life. This is the CONFIDENCE we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything ACCORDING TO HIS WILL, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know we have what we asked of Him. (1 John 5:13-15)
Many times we feel as though our prayers are going nowhere . . .and that's probably true! We get into ruts and habits with everything in life, even our prayers. While we know that we can approach God directly because of the blood of Christ, we must do him humbly and respectfully. We cannot treat Him casually! He is not Santa . . .He is GOD after all!!!! To get in tune with the WILL of God we must be in tune with the WORD of God. We get to know His character, His plans for us, and what He would have us to do. Simply based upon His character, we can many times discern what we should be doing. As we grow closer to Him, we begin to realize how to please Him and what would please Him. As we align with His will, He will the new begin to orchestrate our lives accordingly. May I suggest to ask for nothing more than more time with Him? As we spend quality time with our Daddy, our wants become less important and our desires are to please Him and not ourselves. My prayer is that we all seek God more and "me" less. (John 3:30)

Armed and ready . . .

Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain men have crept in unnoticed . . . (Jude 3-4)
When I have been reading the Bible lately one sure thing has been striking me: Things have not changed too much! While we like to believe that because of our technology and other advances that we are so much more advanced than the folks we read about in the Bible, we are still struggling with the same issues. Sin is still sin and the Word of God is still the Word of God! Here Jude, Jesus' brother, reminds believers to "contend earnestly" for the faith. He gives us the command to "agonize" over continually and vigorously defending the purity of the salvation message of the Bible. Just as Paul instructed Timothy ( 2 Timothy 1:13-14, 1 Timothy 6:19-20), we too are to retain the standards of sound doctrinal truths. While we hear the slogan "Protect This House" in sports today, we as Christ followers must also defend our faith and protect the sound doctrine and not allow it to be watered down or dummied-down in our presence! We are under attack!!!

There WILL be a Final Exam!

If you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.(Colossians 3:1-2)
The best athletes focus on their sport and how they might improve each day. The most skilled physician studies up on new medicines, procedures, and therapies. Lawyers study up on laws and legal practices. Parents and teachers are constantly seeking out more effective ways to reach children in order for them to achieve their highest potential. Even politicians strive to win every vote, in every state so they can win the election.
Why then, as Christ followers, do we focus upon so many things other than Christ?
Do we not desire to know as much as we possibly can about Christ? Do we not want to discover how to best please the One Who created us . . . with a sole purpose of bringing Him glory? (John 15:8) If we were indeed created to bring Him glory and to "bear fruit" for this reason, then why do we not gather all the knowledge we possibly are able to gather about our Lord and Savior? The old saying concerning any area of expertise, be it sports, medicine, law or the like is that we never stay the same. We either get better or worse with each passing day. It is sad that those of other faiths know more about CHRISTianity than most CHRISTians! We have to study and practice our faith!

Don't GIVE UP . . . GIVE IN!

God will equip us for whatever He calls us to do. Because the Holy Spirit dwells within every believer, we have all a need to fulfill the Lord's mission. Instead of letting human inadequacies hinder us from obeying, allow it drive us to us to our knees so we can then get up with renewed insight and power. I am so in awe of Nehemiah. Here he was serving the King Artaxerxes, pretty well set in comparison to most Jews, yet his mind was on his people and his city, Jerusalem. The king could see the worry on his face!
"Why is your face sad, since you are not sick? This is nothing but sorrow of heart." . . . "the place of my fathers' tombs lies in waste, and its gates are burned with fire." (Nehemiah 2:2-3)
The king then decides to send him back along with letters of protection as he travelled. Though he faced opposition, Nehemiah would rally his people to rebuild the walls totally depending upon God and His provisions. What are we troubled with today? What do we believe is impossible . . . but for God? It is still true today: if we indeed trust Him with our whole heart, if we lean upon His strength and understanding and not our own, then we too can do all things through Christ who strengthens us! Allow our inadequacies to be God's opportunities to use us to His glory. Do not give up, but give in to God!

God is . . .

. . .I pray before you now, day and night, for the children of Israel Your servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against You. Both my father's house and I have sinned. We have acted corruptly against You, and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, nor the ordinances which You commanded Your servant Moses, saying, "If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations, but if you return to Me, and keep My commandments, and do them, though some of you were cast out to the farthest parts of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there, and bring them to a place which I have chosen as a dwelling for My name." (Nehemiah 1: 6-9)
Nehemiah respected the awesome holiness of God, so he approached Him with confession. He admitted not only his sin, but his father's and Israel's as well. We cannot hide or continue to enjoy our sin and expect the Lord to hear and answer our prayers. Purity of heart and the power of God are linked. We need the sensitivity to instantly recognize when we've strayed, and the willingness to deal with sin immediately. We must approach God with a sinful, needy, without hope attitude, because that is what we are without Him . . . a holy, perfect, all-knowing and all-powerful God. We all fall short and we must humble ourselves before Him in order to receive His grace and mercy . . . He alone is GOD and we are NOT!!!

Personal Revival

When people came to Jesus to have their needs met, very often He redirected their thinking. He taught them to lift their eyes from their own daily necessities and seek God first. He told them to "seek first the Kingdom of God . .."(Matthew 6:33). In the same way, the psalmist in Psalm 111, encourages his listeners to look to God first, who will then meet their needs. (Psalm 111:4-5) If we truly want to see and experience God at work in our lives, we first need to experience God on an intimate level. Just you and God . . . me and God! Remember what love was like? The stares . . . the letters (yes, real letters!) . . . the long phone calls late at night. While today it may be snapchat, text messages, and emails, it's still the same. All we needed was to see that special someone . . To hear their voice or see their face. Love equals time and time equals love . . . QUALITY time!
"But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin."(1 John 1:7)
Seeking people in order to get closer with the Lord will never truly satisfy the urgent need for a revival with God. Seeking revival will not satisfy the hunger either. Oh, it will give a temporary high. It will provide a short-lived jolt much like a good cup of hearty coffee. But it's just that . . . a quick fix.
We need a lasting sense of joy that only comes form an intimate, personal, and REAL experience with the Savior! Start in the morning . . . EVERY morning. Seek His voice . . . His face . . . His words. It begins with a moment and grows to a day-long love affair and blossoms into a life time of walking hand-in-hand with the one Who first loved us!

Forecasted Storms

Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of Mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on a rock; and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. (Matthew 7:24-25)
As Jesus was teaching and giving examples of what actually following Him would look like, He concluded by referring to life as a series of storms. The winds blow . . . the rains come . . . the thunder roars and the lightning flashes. Raging waters bring powerful currents of uncertainty. However, the one who is solidly entrenched IN the Rock will stay planted and not be uprooted! Where are our roots planted today? Are they deeply rooted or simply surface roots? The deeper the root the stronger the tree. The more solid the foundation, the more solid the structure. If we are deeply rooted and solidly dug in to Jesus and His principles, then storms may rattle our walls or shake our window panes, but we will be able to remain STANDING. The storms ARE coming! Have we dug in deeply to the ROCK?

Teaching toward the future...

And whoever welcomes a child like this in my name welcomes Me. (Matthew 18:5)
The innocence of a child . . . There is nothing more pure nor simple. Eyes wide opened . . .ready to learn and experience life and all it offers. What better time and better opportunity to show and teach the love of Jesus! Yet to deceive such a child or neglect such a child is deadly! (Matthew18:6) Take the time to be Jesus to someone today The life you save may be your own!

Must See . . .

Don’t you know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God in your body. 1Corinthians 6:19-20
Everything we do we do for Christ. It also sets the example for our young people. I am convinced these kids need to SEE Christ at work in the most desperate of ways . . . I was convicted yesterday of how casual I can be. We must know what we show....without compromise! What must you do to be more like Christ?

Defend This House!

You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? This persuasion does not come from Him Who calls you. A little leaven leavens the whole lump. (Galatians 5:7-9)
Why do we fall for such simple lies and deception? While we know and believe Truth, many times we fall for the most silly of deceptions from the evil one. If we know that creeps around always trying to trick, steal, deceive, and even kill and destroy, than why are we not more on our toes? We get too comfortable! Ask the Lord today to help us to become more vigilant. The best offense is a good defense. The more we go to His Word, seek fellow believers and surround ourselves with Godly activity, the more we are able to recognize the enemy! We must strengthen the line and defend this house!

Harvest Time . . . Check the Gardens!

But also for this very reason (the gift of life God has granted us), giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is short-sighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. ( 2 Peter 1:5-9)
As Peter senses his coming death, he is sure to remind his followers of the responsibility all believers have to GROW in faith. It is simply not enough to be assured of NOT going to hell! As we have been granted an eternal relationship with our Lord and Savior, we now have a responsibility to grow in CHRISTian graces and character. We have NO excuses! As believers, as disciples of Jesus Christ, we are to be developing fruit, or other disciples. After all, this was Jesus' very command as He left this earth (Matthew 28:18-20). We are to go out and make DISCIPLES, teaching them all the things we have learned! As we grow in grace, knowledge, self-control, patience, godliness, and love, we will naturally bring others to know Christ. It will become a way of life! It's time to check the garden . . . How is the fruit coming along?

Active Faith

"O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to me." And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the child was cured from that very hour. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said,"Why could we not cast it out?" So Jesus said to them "Because of your unbelief, for assuredly I say to you, if you have the faith of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting. (Matthew 17:17-21
Faith IS action. Thinking and praying are necessary elements, but the true test of our faith is when we actually begin to take the steps it takes to "walk it out." Prayer IS action. It puts us in contact with God. Fasting IS action. It allows us to focus on the will of God rather than our desires. However, EXPECTING is also an action. We simply do not sit and wait, but we act in expectation. We look for God to work and we walk confidently that He will. Even if the people or the situation does not change, we will!
I can recall numerous times when we have seen God work, yet more times when I have failed Him!
In the account above from Matthew, the boy had an issue. However, the disciples also had issues! How do we expect others to believe if we do not? Where is the evidence in our lives? What is holding us back? We will never know the works God can do in and through us until we indeed "walk by faith and not by sight."

Personal Space Invaded

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:23-24)
Letting others in on our business is a good thing. Everyone does not have to know everything about us, but there should be a chosen and trusted few who should have permission into our lives to keep us grounded and connected to the "vine". We also need to be sure to connect to the Body in a physical way, not simply by radio or TV! Every now and then we need our PERSONAL SPACE INVADED! Regular corporate worship, prayer gatherings, small group studies and fellowships, all lead to a healthy spiritual and social life. In addition, those one or two trusted friends who can ask the tough questions honestly and in love also keep us from getting too stuck on ourselves. If we are constantly seeing our own reflection in the mirror, we receive a slanted view. Every once in a while we need the true picture that can only come from someone else! Let's not get caught up in this cyber world of bedside baptist, I-pad inspiration, radio revival, and cell phone salvation! We need the human touch . . . the face-to-face . . . the one on one and group encounters. After all, Jesus came in the flesh, not via technology!

How can this be?

Jesus answered (Nicodemus) and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." . . . " Nicodemus answered and said to Him, "How can these things be? Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel and do not know these things?" (John 3:3,9-10)
The résumé is impressive: A Pharisee — one of the intellectual guardians of the Law. . . Member of the Sanhedrin — the esteemed ruling council. . .Israel’s teacher — the authority, the one whose opinion could sway the vote, the one whose words were most quoted. . .Most impressive. Nicodemus is at the top of the religious ladder, looking down. . .But the view from the top is, at best, disappointing. And now, he steps down from that ladder to walk the streets. How can this be?
Searching. . .?
Have you been "born again"?

I Surrender!

For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all things tempted as we are, yet without sin.(Hebrews 4:15)
Many times we feel as though we are the only one going through things. Our teens feel like this generation is more challenged than any other. Our children believe they have it worse than any other children. Even adults, mature in the faith, will often go to God with the question; "Why me God?" James advises us all as to why we face so many challenges in life. . .
. . .the testing of your faith produces perseverance. (James 1:3)
Whether we have put the challenge upon ourselves through our own actions or it is a test from God to strengthen us, the point is that all the struggles we go through can and will work out for our good if we allow God to take control. However, we must understand that we cannot do it alone. We must first admit that we need help . . . from our "High Priest" in heaven and from our fellow believers here on earth.
SURRENDERING is the key to victory!

Between a rock and The Rock

I have called you by your name: You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall flame scorch you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior . . . (Isaiah 43:1-3)
Is it not good to know that God has our back, front, sides, and is above and below us as well? All around, everywhere we go, God goes with us as we walk with Him. Through good times and bad, He goes with us. He is there for us when everyone else seems to be attacking, abandoning, and even a abhoring us . . . for His sake. Many times it is a challenge to stand, even the midst of "believers", yet we must. Try as we must to be friendly to all peoples, when confronted with the truths of the Gospel many will take offense and lash out. However, this is nothing new. We only have to recall how the Pharisees treated a loving, trusting, forgiving Jesus! At times we confront and at times we simply shake the dirt from our sandals and move on. Stay focused and stay firm. The days are shortening . . .

Blessings all around me . . .

Every Christian is answerable to Jesus for how he or she lived life. We will not stand before the Great White Throne. (Revelation 20:11) That is where unbelievers will be judged. Instead, we will go before Christ's judgment seat and give an account of ourselves. What we'll be judged on is the quality of our work. God has given every believer an individual purpose, along with the personality, talents, and spiritual gifts needed to fulfill it. The question that will be answered at Christ's judgment seat:
Did I live out my purpose to honor and glorify God?
Standing before Christ's judgment seat is something to look forward to. We need not fear, since we are beloved co-heirs with Christ (Rom. 8:17, 34). Because of His sacrifice, we have a right to the treasures of heaven. He is eager to bestow them as a reward for faithfulness and obedience.
Therefore, we make it our aim whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. For we all must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. (2 Corinthians 5:9-10
I am thankful to be around so many who really care . . . about others, about the Lord, and about the work they do and the legacy they are leaving behind. It's not just about the rewards in eternity, but also about the impact we are having now FOR eternity! God bless you all! www.tsninthebeginning.blogspot.com

Silence is DEADLY!!!

Behold, the Word of the Lord is a reproach to them; they have no delight in it. Therefore, I am full of the fury of the Lord. I am weary of holding it in. . . . For I will stretch out my hand against the inhabitants of the land, says the Lord. (Jeremiah 6:10-12)
Why won't people listen? Why will they not see the signs and hear the message? Has Satan sealed up the ears and blinded the eyes so much? Has he made the noise of the world so loud that God's Word is not only misunderstood but not even recognized anymore? How can one choose this dark, evil, and ill-fated world over the promises of our God?
Finally, one more question: Have we, the people of God, simply been quiet for too long?

We NEVER walk alone!

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him Whom loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall seperate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:37-38>
To my son:
Though I am your Father, you have no notion of my omnipotence. You truly have no notion of my greatness. How few people know how mighty I am. How few people have tasted a little of my eternal greatness. How few people know who I am. And it hurts me that so many things are spoken as of me, that I have never said. But now I speak to you, my child. And I show you my heart. You’re at home with me, my child. You are welcome. You belong to me. Here is where your home is. You are with me. And I declare you are free. Everything is fulfilled by my Son.
Imagine hearing these words from God Himself! Listen deeply. As we struggle, we sometimes wonder if we are in it alone. Does anyone care about our struggles? Am I all alone in this? But God . . . . We are "at home" with the Creator . . . the King of all kings . . . the Lord of all Lords. He loves us so so much that we cannot even comprehend it until we are so alone that we have only Him. Yet we have Him! He is better, deeper, wiser, more understanding, the most forgiving, most loving, the best we could ever imagine. So as we are at our lowest point in life . . . we find our Father. Feel His embrace. Cherish His love. Rest in the confidence that He loves you and me with an unending and agape love. Walk in His confidence today!!!!!
