Philosophy 101

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.
(Colossians 2:8) Paul, a gifted philosopher himself, is not condemning philosophy. He is however, condemning teachings that give credit to humanity, and not Jesus Christ, with having all the answers to life's challenges. This is what false religions are all about: relativism, humanism, hedonism, etc. God is totally disregarded in the world's philosophies today: If it feels good . . . do it! Whatever makes you happy! Don't worry about others . . . you do what feels best for you! You only live once! You do you and I'll do me! These are some unwise and very selfish pieces of advice, yet very popular, not only among the general public, but the medical and religious community as well. Jesus however, would encourage us to love our neighbor, serve others, and put others' needs above our own. He would say we must serve in order to lead, humble ourselves in order to be honored, and submit to others not seek to be served. The world advises a me-first mentality and Jesus directs us to think more highly of others than we do of ourselves. Two contrasting philosophies . . . which one do you subscribe to? Philosophy 101 . . . .
